blending to match is gonna be tough....but its all in the prep and finishing. Do you have a buffer and compounds? How many coats of clear did you use?

i do have a buffer and compounds, on my sides i used 3 coats of clear, on the bumper, my plan is sand, adhesive promoter, wet sand, white primer, wet sand, stone white paint, wet sand, stone white, clear, and then scratch x and wax once cured....what do u think? ill post the pics once its done!

Re: Cool site for paint if you want to color match parts

I will say, the site is great, great shipping and I guess the match is good. I think it was more of the gloss for me. I used a spray can clear and THAT is what killed it for me mostly. The factory paint job just cannot be matched from any aerosol can stuff is you ask me but thats just my .02 -

Thats why I say any exterior stuff like mirror covers or if you wanted to paint trim, Id stay away from aerosol stuff and get a cheap gun from harbor freight for like $20 (throw away) or even a nicer one for maybe $100 or so and then they have the sprayable stuff on their site as well as the primers/clears all for in total maybe $75? I think it would be worth it 100% if you ask me.

No, i tried something crazy like a 2k 2 part aerosol clear, it was something clear, in an orange can, forget the name too lazy to look but regardless. I talked to some guys at my local Dupont Automotive and all they do is sell paint and chemicals for automotive use etc etc. They said you could get ok results doing what I did but you would never match the quality of factory OEM stuff without doing it the way they do w/ the guns and proper paint and reactors and primers etc. Im going to test some stuff out and post up soon hopefully fingers x'ed

Re: Cool site for paint if you want to color match parts

Irf, i ordered a can of PXR and clearcoat from automotive touchup and attempted to do the lower airdam. it didnt come out too well. idk what but it seems the paint doesnt stick to well. so after using half the can, it still looks like stock(less of that gray texture look tho) with a rough texture. i think someone posted (Rob or Daniel?) something about the plastic which makes it harder to prep and paint.

i did use the rest of the can to paint the chrome tailgate trim and it came out pretty well imo. The paint was right on, you can tell the brilliance when the sun hits it.

My new look:

Re: Cool site for paint if you want to color match parts

its all in the prep guys...do more than just scratch it up. It needs degreased REALLY well. Then sanded REALLY smooth. Start with low grits and work your way down. Then use a self etching or plastic primer and then high build primer...sanding both lightly till they are smooth. Do as many coats as you need...but usually like 2-3. Then paint and clear. Get a high quality clear that you can wet sand and thn buff to a shine.
