This site can sell you any paint code you want in a convienent spray can. Robpp and I have used their services many times to get spray cans of paint for our Jeeps color code. The color code can be found on the inside front drivers side door. Excellent products and FAST shipping! I also recommend their clearcoats and supplies.

I use them also. Used them to paint my wheels.

Just stripped them down and bought 6 cans of Ford DSG to do all 4 wheels with and Inferno Red Stripe on the outside.

I'm curious about that site, I've seen it but just never got anything. The paint I used to do my wheels was Duplicolor Metal Specks Retro Red and it was pretty damn close to the Inferno Red . I got bored today and decided to do this:

I don't remember who I saw do this on here but I got the idea from them so thanks :D. I'm picking up some clearcoat tomorrow to clear and finish it.

finally something worth while to get.

something thats cheap and easy to do when I'm bored. I can always find something to paint or draw on when I get bored:D. The girlfriend hates that little qwirk. hahaha

hey were did you get the paint covers?? I wanna pick me up a set.

Hey, I got them from USAautoparts.net

They were Putco covers, fit is good, but the paint match wasn't what I wanted. I wouldn't recommend the automotivetouchup spray cans for anything you're showing off on the outside of the car. Match isn't off so much, but spray quality isn't there, not smooth enough and the prep/clear makes all the difference. You need to self-etch these w/ some sort of acid or self-etch primer, then another high-build primers before paint. Im re-doing mine, match/gloss isn't there.

Im going to spray them w/ the pro stuff, 95% match and pro automotive paint and primer and clear, will post up how i did it.

blending to match is gonna be tough....but its all in the prep and finishing. Do you have a buffer and compounds? How many coats of clear did you use?

#15 ·
i do have a buffer and compounds, on my sides i used 3 coats of clear, on the bumper, my plan is sand, adhesive promoter, wet sand, white primer, wet sand, stone white paint, wet sand, stone white, clear, and then scratch x and wax once cured....what do u think? ill post the pics once its done!

I will say, the site is great, great shipping and I guess the match is good. I think it was more of the gloss for me. I used a spray can clear and THAT is what killed it for me mostly. The factory paint job just cannot be matched from any aerosol can stuff is you ask me but thats just my .02 -

Thats why I say any exterior stuff like mirror covers or if you wanted to paint trim, Id stay away from aerosol stuff and get a cheap gun from harbor freight for like $20 (throw away) or even a nicer one for maybe $100 or so and then they have the sprayable stuff on their site as well as the primers/clears all for in total maybe $75? I think it would be worth it 100% if you ask me.

No, i tried something crazy like a 2k 2 part aerosol clear, it was something clear, in an orange can, forget the name too lazy to look but regardless. I talked to some guys at my local Dupont Automotive and all they do is sell paint and chemicals for automotive use etc etc. They said you could get ok results doing what I did but you would never match the quality of factory OEM stuff without doing it the way they do w/ the guns and proper paint and reactors and primers etc. Im going to test some stuff out and post up soon hopefully :) fingers x'ed

Irf, i ordered a can of PXR and clearcoat from automotive touchup and attempted to do the lower airdam. it didnt come out too well. idk what but it seems the paint doesnt stick to well. so after using half the can, it still looks like stock(less of that gray texture look tho) with a rough texture. i think someone posted (Rob or Daniel?) something about the plastic which makes it harder to prep and paint.

i did use the rest of the can to paint the chrome tailgate trim and it came out pretty well imo. The paint was right on, you can tell the brilliance:) when the sun hits it.

My new look:

its all in the prep guys...do more than just scratch it up. It needs degreased REALLY well. Then sanded REALLY smooth. Start with low grits and work your way down. Then use a self etching or plastic primer and then high build primer...sanding both lightly till they are smooth. Do as many coats as you need...but usually like 2-3. Then paint and clear. Get a high quality clear that you can wet sand and thn buff to a shine.

+rep!
thanks alot for the tips Scott! did a half ass job on my first shot(basically just scratch up the surface and shot some paint lol) on the airdam so i gave it another shot today. Followed what you wrote and it worked like a charm! took my time and worked up to 1000 grit with primer between sets. tried to make it as smooth as possible and then apply several coats of basecoat followed by a few layers of clear.

I only did the part which can be seen when the airdam is on, so i didnt bother with the lower section.

idk if you can tell from the last pic but you can see the sparkles :p in the PXR paint. Also bought a can of the snakeskin green so ill be doing some parts under the hood for that.

Scott - what clear do you recommend? And did you a can to paint your stuff or a spray gun? I want to do it all myself with a spray can, but can ask my father in-law to help out with a spray gun if I need to.

I have used the clear from the site above and it is good. I used a can...but if you can use a spray gun...that is better.

Cool, thanks!

here's one of the parts, lets just hope it can take the heat

as long as you degreased it and prepped it properly.....it should be ok. The clear coat is important too
