At first I tried to use 4" vise grips and use the adjuster to apply pressure on the contact points...FAIL. Then I got to thinking I have an old brake spoon used to adjust rear drums...I busted out the dremel and cut a notch in the end similar to a pry bar. I then completely disengaged the adjuster and used a large vise grip to pry that from the reflector. One down, two to go. The modified brake spoon worked pretty effectively to separate the ball stud under the reflector. Then a little more pressure to release the mount under the high beam side. I am not going to say this is fool proof. I did feel that I could break something at any time. But, I now have a lens, a bezel, a backside of the housing and a reflector. All four pieces are separate and ready to go! I am just going to complete my driver side and see how it turns out. Then I'll start looking aggressively for a new passenger side housing.

Awesome! Post up pics of it all separated and the progress (like a write-up) if you can. No rush, just dont forget photos along the way haha, I always do that and the jobs done and Im like damn, I took no pics for the guys haha. Appreciate whatever you can do!

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

BUMP

Just spoke with Matt over at the retrofit source and placed my order. Great guy to deal with, top notch customer service. I settled today on going quad projectors just for pure output and Im going with the 5k bulb for the most output while still getting the white-blueish tint.

Got the Apollo shrouds and the FX-R projectors as well since they were the best overall as far as price and light quality goes. All in all it was $500 out the door including all the wiring and other accessories to do the retrofit.

I ordered a new set of '05 - '07 headlights through AM auto for $118 out the door so everything should be in by mid-end of next week. Im going to probably open the headlights up and have them painted for next weekend as well.

Going to paint them my factory color PB8 midnight blue pearl so that should turn out nicely. Not sure if I'm going to do it myself or have it done locally but either way you'll get pics once thats done. From there Ill have a how-to thread HOPEFULLY (if I remember lol) on mounting/aligning the quad projectors as well as the shrouds and hooking everything up. All in all, good day and Im happy w/ my choice, should be sweet!

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

I don't think you will be disappointed! Matt is a great guy to deal with and you should have a much easier time opening up those aftermarket housings than the OEM ones. I'm in the process of possibly switching jobs and moving from Iowa back to the Chicagoland area. This will sadly put a huge damper on my progress. I do plan to keep you guys updated and do a write-up as well. Soontobesrt, I think you are going to beat me to it though!

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

I just acquired the hardware to mount my driver side projector. I will be sure to post pictures of that whole process, planning on tackling that on Friday. I am going a route some may not prefer; you will actually end up being able to see two button head screws if you crouch down and look at the bottom of the low beam reflector. Ultimately, I think it will provide an adjustable mounting method to get it all dialed in properly. I may improvise something to cover them up, but I'll see how it looks.

Also, I think I am going to do away with putting a Jeep logo in the headlights...instead, I'm going with halos. I think will have some pretty sweet headlights when all is said and done. Now, to make the picture in my head come to life....

Yup ,I hear you, I'm doing the LED demon eye look on top of the projectors as well. Not sure about the Jeep thing, but painting will be a must for me, I really want them color matched. I do like chrome, but the painted look accentuates the projectors and honestly looks meaner while still classy, just my .02.

Anyway the package was delivered, I am not home though so haven't seen it but will post pics tomorrow if I get a chance hooray.

And kerdone, as far as mounting, I spoke to Matt and a some other people and they honestly felt some proper adhesive would hold the projectors in place properly if aimed correctly. This way you don't need to move them nor make all that mounting stuff but either method works he said. I personally never dealt with any headlight tearing or retrofitting of any kind so Im unsure haha, but he said the same went for the shrouds too. Im going to see when Im playing with it all but ill probably end up using only some serious adhesives. not sure if the projectors have adjustable cutoffs, id assume so though right? Will keep this thread posted.

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

As far as I know, the only way to adjust the cutoff is to adjust the actual projector housing itself.

I would love to just use adhesive, but I am a little concerned about making sure they stay aimed in the right place. Once the adhesive dries, you can't adjust the rotational or vertical aspects anymore. You will be locked into the horizontal adjustment that the headlight assembly allows. I guess once they are sealed that is all you will be able to do anyway...

I'll look into my mounting options once I cut out the reflector. I do know that I want these things to be solid.

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

Just ordered all of my materials to do a full fiberglass shroud/base underneath my E46-R shroud. My plan is to completely cover the reflector on the low beam side. I can't wait to get this thing mounted up to determine how the rest of the light is going to come together.

Re: Design my NEW headlights!

I would love to do this on my Jeep but have no idea how to mount the projector onto the housing.
