Re: Doing My Mesh Grille Tomorrow

Very nice done! Gonna do the same when I get a hold of a nice piece of mesh.
How did you cut the vertical plastic things out of the grille? Is there a chance you could crack the entire grille while doing it??

Re: Doing My Mesh Grille Tomorrow

Could use a dremel if you have one, a sharp razor blade with alot of work, or a fine tooth saw. I have a hand held jab saw I got at Homedepot that came with a fine toothed PVC cutting saw that would work great. Then sand down the rough plastic.

I just used the wire snips that i used to cut the mesh with. It was easy enough to just clip that plastic. I then used my dremmel to sand away the excess plastic so the mesh could sit as flush as possible. The only problem I ran into was on the very ends of the grill there is no real solid place to put a screw. I had to use a longer screw and a couple washers to make it work but im sure with a little creativity and thought you could make it work better than I did.

I did however leave enough overlap on the mesh to allow me to "mold" or bend it over the edges of the grill itself to make for a flush and tight fit. It all worked great for me and hopefully this helps you when you want to do one for yourself. I would say it is one of the easiest mods that ive done... except for plugging in the powerwire of course! haha

Re: Doing My Mesh Grille Tomorrow

For my 05 I think the only way to get it fitting good and secured down right is to take the bumper off, which is easy enough but not in this cold. Mesh in the lower grill will hardley make a visual difference anyways so i'll wait for the spring.

Re: Doing My Mesh Grille Tomorrow

yea it was around 2* outside yesterday. Ill probably end up pulling off the bumper and doing this. I know it wont make a huge difference visually but to me it will give it a finished look up front. I dont like doing things halfway. If I took the time do do the grille i might as well take the time to do the lower opening too. But im right there with you, i might wait till spring to get it done when I can work outside without freezing my ass off

Thanks guys! Then dremmel it is

Also thanks for the heads up on fastening the mesh in the ends of the grille. Always good to be prepared.
Nice tip about leaving a bit of mesh to mold it with orig grille. Will definitely hold on to it better.
