obviously you guys are using a digital slim line hid ballast for easier mounting correct?
I have been using the H10/9145 bulbs with very good success. I believe this is the same as a 9006 HID bulb (don't quote me on this). The reason I prefer this bulb is that it fits PERFECTLY into the HID "donuts" I use (more on this below).

I like the Devcon 5-minute epoxy. Make sure you get the 5-minute kind, or else you'll have to sit there and hold the bulb in place for an hour before it sets up.

I use the slim ballasts but I wouldn't be surprised if a full-size ballast would fit. In general, I try to discourage people from using slim ballasts. Any trouble I've EVER had with HID ballasts has always been with the slims. NEVER had a lick of trouble with the full-size. They aren't that much bigger (same length and width, about twice as thick) but they also have the advantage of having the igniter built-in. If you can fit them, go full-size. If you can't just make sure you suck it up and buy some good HIGH-QUALITY slim ballasts. No $20 eBay specials here, you'll regret it!

Okay, what I do is use those little plastic rings that come with some HID bulbs. You know, those little plastic donuts that keep the bulb from falling out of the bottom of the protective plastic capsules the bulbs come in? They are the perfect outer diameter to fit over the opening for the reverse light (with LED tails). Then, the inner diameter fits perfectly with the H10 bulb. It's a match made in heaven. Just epoxy everything in place to be weathertight and you're good to go.

ATILLA, what I was recommending is taking one of these very same "donuts" and "sandwiching" it in-between the circuit board and the reverse light opening. Use some epoxy and the circuit board would kinda help hold it in. Just ditch the socket altogether. Make sense?

hmmmmm

I wonder if the H1 bulb might work even better!

its about twice as thin as the 9006/9145/9005 (which you are right about....they are all the same bulb, just different plastic bases to allow it to screw and lock into the housing)

I dunno if the H1 bulb would be necessary. Space really isn't an issue at all if you have the LED tails. I dunno about the stock WK tails, tho.

Yeah, I know the 9005 and 9006 bulbs are different, but I remember that the 9145 is the exact same as one or the other. I think it was the 9005. Only difference is that with the stock bulbs, the 9005 is 55 watts, but the 9145 is 45 watts. However, since HID kits are 35 watts, the bulb is identical.

Like I said, I just used that bulb since it fit perfectly into the donuts. This is how I've done it on three sets of tails. I did it for my SRT, my 5.9, and a set of tails for a guy that wanted me to do them for him.

EDIT: Just confirmed it, identical to 9005 bulb, except for wattage. Ergo, the 9005/9145/H10 HID bulbs are all EXACTLY the same. Some people put 9005 bulbs in their stock fog lights for more brightness. Base, connector, and everything is exactly the same.

Re: Fully functional Euro taillights installed with video

cool!!

how may donughts did you use per bulb?

also, Ive noticed that all the replacement bulbs Ive purchased of late didnt come with those doughnut/clear spacers anymore

they are coming in clear screw-on cases where the bottom of the bulb and its wires slides through the case

any particular brand of bulbs and/or hid kit brand/company off ebay you recommend that you know has those doughnuts to use???

Re: Fully functional Euro taillights installed with video

yeah im in the same boat as ron, the bulbs ive gotten lately dont have donuts...

i was just going to dremel out the inners of the clip in and epoxy the H10 to fit in so i could just clip it in like you would a bulb... am i wasting my time with this idea? cause i already wasted a clip in from my spare when it snapped on me. hahah

I just use one donut per bulb.

I like the full-size kits from DDMtuning.com. I think they call them the raptor kits. Price is right and quality is pretty good, considering the price. Like I said, the H3 bulbs come with the donuts.

I've noticed that, too. The H3 bulbs still come with the donuts, I know that much. Just call the HID company and they will usually send them a handful for you. They did for me, at least.

Alternatively, you could buy some super cheap H3 HID bulbs off ebay. Every set I've ever bought have come with the donuts. I've seen them for like $15 plus shipping before. Like I said, I'd try calling an HID company first. They sent me a stack before. I only have 2 left.

Yes, Atilla, I think you are wasting your time. I think that a donut would be much faster/easier. Even if you couldn't get the donut like we're talking about, one could be fabbed really easily using some scrap plastic.
