Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

yea thats probably why but I was just thinking if you are going to drop 2,300 american dollars on vinyl, You might want to look into a paint job since that wont be that much more and will be way more durable and better looking. A decent paint job cant be more than 3,000 - 3,500? maybe cheaper, right?

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

Sorry for the delay in responding to you guys, was away with work last week.

The Jeep was dropped off at the shop this morning and will be ready to collect on Tuesday night.

I decided against the black vinyl on the doors where the windows meet, I didn't think it would look right.

Hannes: Yeah, I did think about anthracite wheels but I don't know if they would blend in too much. Whereas with matte black its a nice contrast which helps break the car up a little...
I am still totally undecided though and will make my mind up next week when I get it back.

Motteler: I don't want to get it painted as that is irreversible, so if I went to sell it I would get thousands knocked off the price. Whereas with vinyl I can just remove it and go back to the original paint which is in perfect condition.

If I was getting it painted I would end up getting the entire Jeep stripped down to paint everywhere which is a lot of work. So for me vinyl was the best option.

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

oh i c. Does it really knock money off your selling price if you get your vehicle painted a different color than the original? Thats kind of weird, what if you went to a better paint than original. i know it will be different color than what the VIN says but who cares, as long as you keep the paperwork of were u got it painted.

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

A LOT of people care if the cars color was altered. It could mean a lot of different things. And a high quality job where the strip everything, and paint the under the hood, door jambs and such is crazy expensive.

Wrapping it will totally change the look of the Jeep, but its easy to get rid of if Marty wants his perfect silver paint again.

Good call on the big window look Marty...just about everything new out there these days has black pillars for that look. I dunno, I think its nice to see painted pillars. Its a rarity these days.

Yes, it probably would blend a little. I was thinking about doing an anthracite finish on my polished SRT's....it would look really stealthy...

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

Yeah, it would knock a tonne off the resale value and with it being a matte finish it won't be everyones tastes either...

Totally agree Hannes, I think the WJ looks better with the painted pillars rather than black. Looks great on the WK however, they have the chrome window sill trim from the front to rear which makes a massive difference to the end result.

I've narrowed it down to Anthracite or matte black for the wheels. I think both would look great but I'm so indecisive!

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

Just got the Jeep back home now and it looking fecking incredible!

No pics as I never had the camera with me although I'll try my best to get some tomorrow...

Looking at it with my old wheels fitted I think matte silver would be a good choice but I don't know if they can powder coat, so we'll see.

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

Sadly, I've been sent away to a site tomorrow which is booked out until 1pm, its about 3 1/2 hours back so it will be dark again if it lasts that long.

I've got my fingers crossed we'll get finished early and I'll get some nice daylight pics!

Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

I believe it is the first full body wrap, but I could be wrong?

Its like driving a brand new car, I mean my paint was in damn good condition but it did have a could of little bits that bugged me - mainly on the trim at the bottom of the doors.

I would've taken the Jeep to site with me as the scenery is great but my work wouldn't cover the fuel so that's a no go.

Thumbs up Re: Gonna get my baby booked in...

Well the job got binned 1 hour after I arrived (problem was at another tower )...

Anyhow, the powder coating place can only do glossy silver so I think matte black will be the best choice - it's gonna come down to a coin flip or something...

I'm taking a wheel along this evening to see if they can shot blast the chrome off - supposedly the chrome on American wheels is quite hard to blast off but FR said it was possible so fingers crossed.

After visiting the powder coaters I took a drive round the industrial estate and found a nice empty spot to take pics at. The Jeep is dirty and wet but that doesn't matter;

Can't wait to get it cleaned up and get the SRT rims back on - I'll get better pics then!
