Re: Got my HIR headlight bulbs today! -- 07 WK 5.7L

hmmmm

I ran these for 1 week in my old 300c

I have since found full plug and play HID kits WITH antiflicker harnesses for 39.99 shipped!

WELL worth the 10 dollars more IMHO!

I dont think that was the point bro??

Alot of people are putting HIRs in their highbeams because they don't want the "lag time" of warming up everytime you switch from low-high beam on the highway.

I love my HIR high beams. I actually prefer the color of them over the HID kit I have in my lows and have thought about swapping my lows over to HIR.

I ran HIR's for my lows before, and they appeared brighter and a bit higher temp color. The bulb you have posted that you received def does not look anything like an HIR bulb, it looks like a sylvania bulb I had in my WK when I bought it. I can see why you would want HIRs for highs, because the warm up time, but with my HID lows and fogs I honestly never ever use my highs anymore.

Re: Got my HIR headlight bulbs today! -- 07 WK 5.7L

I bought them from that CandlePower site. I completely missed the link to them posted above, where the "New 3rd Generation" bulbs do look slimmer just like regular halogens. So maybe those are the newest type.

Being honest I expected the HIRs I bought to be much brighter when I instaled them. In my head I thought they would be like HIDs. IMO they are brighter than stock halogens, but for the price im much happier with HIDs. I have a set from XenonDepot and a set from Tony/BajaHID or whatever it is. The ones I am running from Tony are Xentec, which I later found on Ebay for like $37 shipped, and have bought and installed them in 3 friends cars so far with great luck.

Also when I was researching about HIRs awhile back I found that John Deer stores sell HIRs, I guess they use them in farm tractor lighting.

What are the advantages of HIR's over HID's? Or should I say what are the differences?

Re: Got my HIR headlight bulbs today! -- 07 WK 5.7L

HIRs are used primarily in the high beam headlight for most people here since they don't want to convert the high beam to HID due to the lag time of the HID heating up. As well as the HID flickering from low beam to high beam is an issue for a lot of us. Thats why people put halogens or HIRs into their high beams.

However, your best bet is to contact robpp, he has used both HIRs and HIDs
