Exclamation Have you used strobes? I'm looking for a good set

I want to put white strobes up front and red in the rear to use during roadside emergences: flat tire, recovering a stuck vehicle from the snow, etc.

Up front I'm thinking about doing one in each headlight (high beam reflector or turn signal reflector) and either one in each fog light or 2 standalone units in the grill. In the rear I'll do one in each tail light and if I ever get an export bumper, one in each of the bumper lights.

Here are a couple sites I've found so far that seem good but if you have something else to recommend, please do.

Check your state laws, highly illegal here, just to have the blue lights I have for fire fighting the state police have to come inspect everything and sign off on it. I wouldn't do it if I were you, god forbid you get a pissed off cop seeing that you will be arrested for impersonating a police officer. And strobes are bug magnets, instead of warning people your there they just stare at them and you increase your chances of getting hit. A lot of the cops around here try to park on the opposite side of the road if they have their lights on because there have been quite a few hits here cause people see flashing lights and stare.
JMHO though, but its prob not the best idea, honestly a few good road flares would be a better bet for ya. And cheaper. The site I use for my responded stuff is pse responder.

be careful with color choices. in some states adding a light of a certain color is impersonating a police officer. just saying. white all around will bring plenty of attention. be careful with red.

Re: Have you used strobes? I'm looking for a good set

Yeah I should've added that I already did the research. Unless I'm misinterpreting something, any vehicle may use white or amber up front or amber or red in the rear "for the purpose of warning the operators of other vehicles of the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring the exercise of unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing."

As per Michigan Vehicle Code 257.698a:

"257.698a Vehicular traffic hazard; front and rear warning lamps.
Sec. 698a.

Any vehicle may be equipped with lamps which may be used for the purpose of warning the operators of other vehicles of the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring the exercise of unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing, and when so equipped may display such warning in addition to any other warning signals required by this act. The lamps used to display such warning to the front shall be mounted at the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable, and shall display simultaneously flashing white or amber lights, or any shade of color between white and amber. The lamps used to display such warning to the rear shall be mounted at the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable, and shall show simultaneously flashing amber or red lights, or any shade of color between amber and red. These warning lights shall be visible from a distance of not less than 500 feet under normal atmospheric conditions at night."

I really would think about this before you do anything. It could really come back to bite you, a kid around here put while and red strobes on his car for "show purposes" and was caught using them on the road and was arrested and fined well over 2 grand.

This additional edit button being a mod is buggin the crap out of me... I keep going to quote and end up in an edit your post screen. I didnt change anything I promise!

ANYWAY, on topic, your story is full of fail... sorry. "a kid"... "red strobes on his car"... "caught using them on the road". Yes, there is no denying that using them outside of their intended purpose is illegal. Lighting your friends up being stupid playing around on the street is not pulling a vehile out of an embankment in the snow, or drawing attention to drivers that your parked on the side of the freeway helping someone change a flat tire.

Also the law posted is very clear flashing so long as they flash at the same time is perfectly fine. Its when you get the police strobes that flash left and right individually there is a problem.

For peace of mind (as a ticket for helping someone out would suck) I would print this law off and keep a copy in my owners manual so IF a cop decided he had nothing better to do you could at LEAST show him that you looked into it and it was for safety not for show unlike the aforementioned honda story.
I think this is a great idea, and knowing you its going to look AMAZING when its done!

It varys by state to state bro, here I'd say not to use flashing lights of any kind, you'd be surprised how strict they are even on us as volunteer fire fighters.
