How to Paint Wheels Black?

I would like to paint the stock wheels on my 01 WJ Limited black, and would like to know what kind of paint to use, best to sand finish first, then apply and clear coat?

Never done it before and would like to do it temporarily until I get my 20" Black SRT8 wheels.

Re: How to Paint Wheels Black?

This will be for street only, no off road action so if I can get 6 months of use with them looking decent, I'll be happy.

How To; Paint your wheels w/ out removing them

That is how you can paint them without removing them.

You could use black Plastidip just in case you don't like the look, you can peel the paint off later.

Re: How to Paint Wheels Black?

I used stripper to get the old lacquer off, then sanded, primed, sanded, then painted.

I went with four layers of paint and four of clear. They turned out like this...

I used 'Tamiya' paint for the colour. Been on for six months, through all kinds of crappy weather and no chips or anything.

here's a write up i did back when i had my wrangler... figure $60 or so and a few hours of your time. they held up great during a ND winter so as long as you prep it right, you shouldn't have any problems until your new wheels show up
