Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

hey guys, i was just wondering who has what and which one is better, the ion crystal or the xtreme white piaa 510's for in the stock fog location. i've found some reviews saying that the ion crystal's aren't bright enough, but i thought i would get some opinions here.

Re: Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

as you can see in my sig pic i already have hids, one of my balasts went bad and i don't want to spend money on the same thing, i considered trying the led fogs on ebay but i've heard they are good for looks and that's about it. i've wanted piaa's for years (since i first got my jeep) but never got around to it, now i'm ready but don't know which ones to go with. i was set on ion crystal til i read that the output isnt as good

Re: Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

I have the PIAA ion crystals. They are bright enough, but I have them as a contrast to the HIDs. The problem with the 510 series are the lights get so hot, it cracks the glass lense and are a pain to change the bulb due to you need a socket wrench and a screw driver. I read somewhere on this forum that a member either had his factory fogs treated with yellow 3M tint or had bought them that way. Buy some PIAA extreme whites high beams (9005). Clip or file down the tabs on the inside of the socket so you can plug them in the fog light plugs (if you have the OEM fog light plugs) and insert into some 3M yellow tinted fog lights. The light output will not be as much as if it were plugged to the high beam plug, but it will be much more than the bulbs normally used.

IMO get HIDs for the fogs. Works amazingly well for me at night when in the dirt. Running 3000k bulbs.

you don't think the heat from the high beam bulbs would melt the plastic of a stock fog, esp if its tinted? i might just go the led route:

Re: Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

I have Ion's. I don't have the foglight multifunction switch yet but the lights are wired and ready to go. Tested them with my high beam harness.

A lot of pictures. I know. Sorry.

Re: Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

And to those that say the Ion PIAA's aren't bright enough...the purpose of a fog light is to not be so bright because of the light reflecting back into your eyes from fog/dust or whatever.

The light output is suppose to be "dual" in a sense so that it reflects light as little as possible off of fog.

Yellow light has a long wavelength and is best for fogs. Red would be good but that color is used for brakes tails. Lol.

The high beam bulbs did not damage my OEM fog lights, can't say about tinted lenses. Those LEDs look cool. How much and do they come in yellow?

Re: Ion Crystal or Xtreme White PIAA Fogs?

i haven't seen them in yellow, it would be nice if they did.

edit: i guess you could always tint them like you stated before...now i have more ideas rolling around in my head!

i've seen them range from $120 - $200 depending on where you look. obviously the best prices are on eaby. my biggest concern is light output with them (i've heard it's not so great) and also quality. but i might just go for it to be the test dummy for others.

I have been looking at the same ones, and thinking the same thing about the light output. If you don't decide to test dummy it, I will. I just gotta know how far the light is gonna go with those LEDs :/
