License plate LEDs

I have to laugh because even the simplest things can be challenging. I'm going to be installing HIDs in my lows; I just hope its not too disappointing with the glare. Regardless, they are going in until I can afford projector housings or a retrofit on some halogen housings. Anyway, I replaced my back-up lamps and my license plate lights with some 5k LEDs. Removing the license plate lights was easy...installing the flank LEDs was not! Of course, the driver's side goes in just fine. But not only was the passenger side a PITA to fit, but its polarity is opposite and the flank bulb is shining the wrong way. Now I need to remove my liftgate trim, and the liftgate handle so I can rotate the bulb housing. Trust me, I tried to spin it from the outside but its not happening. I just had to share my story as a forewarning to those that may be using the flank bulbs for the license plate lights. You basically have a 50-50 chance of them shining in the right direction. If you are anal like me, you will need to do some extra work!

Re: License plate LEDs

What brand are yours? Some LED bulbs, like the flanks from V-LEDS, work just fine.

Re: License plate LEDs

Yeah, they were the flank bulbs from VLEDs. However, the passenger side LED was shining up instead of down. About a half hour of work and I had them both in the right direction.

Re: License plate LEDs

well if they fit in ONE jeep klutch you must either have the wrong bulb or some other issue. all the lights are the same.

Re: License plate LEDs

I bought the flank bulb like everyone else has.....I have read some issues of people having troubles getting it in...

I dunno why I can't get it in Rob.............I have no idea what I should do. I wanted to sand down the sides a bit, but I dont want to lose warranty

Re: License plate LEDs

Use some bent needle nose pliers. I have a pair and they saved me during the LED bulb install:

And you need the proper bulb size IMO these are the best:http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/C...-p4481133.html

Here you go, Davy.. nine feet away, 3" exposure, no flash... Don't let the blue trick you, they're completely white.
