Re: Medic hood came flying off

Wow!!!!! That's crazy, scary and unacceptable. Something that could cause serious damage to other vehicles and even charges to you. Now I'm not one to bash, just not in me to do so. But, what I will say is that Black Ops Auto Works will build it the right way and even better, too our high standards. So fitment will be spot on and there will never have to be any concerns about anything like this happening.

Once again, sorry bro that this had happened to you and thank god no one was injured. For those that have this hood, please be cautious and I'd even take it off. It's not worth the end result and always happens when you least expect it. If you see stress cracks, immediately bring it back or just remove it. That is a sure sign that the mounting points are going to fail and who knows what will happen. I'm sorry and feel for you folks that do have this hood. Just be wise about it at this point, it's not something you just look the other way.... Good luck!

Look forward to the future... Take care! Jimmy

Re: Medic hood came flying off

Like Rob said, I lost my stock hood (only damage was the windshield) make sure to use loctite and self locking washers or you will lose your next hood too.

Re: Medic hood came flying off

1. we have yet to get a clear answer as to what broke. nary a pic
2. considering this is the first one in over 18 months with about 100 in circulation......I think you are way off base telling anyone to remove the hood.
3. anyone with one of these should do a few things; use blue loctite on all threads and check the tightness on a regular basis.
4. anyone who is unsure about having this hood on should look into hood pins. ACTUALLY ANYONE WITH AN AFTERMARKET HOOD SHOULD CONSIDER HOOD PINS> And if you dont think so go read the terms that the mfg. or distributor has in place.

Re: Medic hood came flying off

I should just repost my photos here as I'm sure it's what took place in this case. It's a hardware issue, bolts come loose, then the clip seperates from the hardware in the hood and causes this problem.

Unless the hood actually failed which I don't think happened at all.

One thing I will point out, (Rob chime in for Trufiber) Black Ops molds the hardware into the hood, unlike the medic hood where you have to take the "guts" out of the stock hood and use them.

But yea loctite it up! And check it often

Well, i'm not way off base. I'm telling those with stress cracks to remove their hoods, because the next step will not be good and could cause serious damage. So why take the chance? If it was my buddy, I would tell them the same exact thing. I'm only looking out for their best interest and drivers around them. Now what is blue loctite going to do about stress damage to mounting point? NOTHING!!! loctite doesnt solve the issue. the issue if people are getting stress cracks, is poor mounting points, probably not reinforced as they should be. Hood pins should never be necessary for hoods that are properly made, if you have to use hood pins, dont buy it. the only time hood pins are used are for light weight racing hoods.

excuse me, not at mounting points. now why would the hood come off due to loose bolts. ask yourself are they the right bolts or are the mounting points reinforced with metal plates fused to the hood? It sounds like there are some issues that need to be resolved before more hoods have similar issues. regardless where the stress cracks are, that means poor quality, so should question what else could go wrong? what needs to be done, is to go back and figure out how to fix any issues and get them done right. it's a good thing that the forums are here to give those a heads up, so they can be cautious. if it were me and i knew there were issue or issues like this, i wouldn't take the risk. just not worth it.

Do you have any pics of the hood and the damage?

Re: Medic hood came flying off

If someone calls me and tell me they have stress crack around hinge points I would tell them to take it off ASAP. This is not possible with our hoods well I guess anything is possible but like Downstate said we mold plates in our hood to prevent this from happening.

no, you aren't off base

one question: the place you represent says HOOD PINS ARE NECESSARY. AND you are telling everyone something different. WOWOWO: http://www.blackopsautoworks.com/pages/policies.html

and the hood that came off has metal plates for the hinge mounts and the front mount has a removable plate.

maybe you should get one and look at it...........

and the ONLY persont that has stress cracks is Scott. and Scott knows enough when to something is cosmetic ans when somethig is dangerous.

IMO< the hood came off cause the hardware came loose. until I see a pic of the underside of this hood, IM STICKING TO IT>

and guess what, that could happen to ANY HOOD!
