Re: n00b Rim help!

Thanks for the tip Scott! Can see a tiny difference in your sig pic, but not too much as you say. Though I think that lower than 45 wont work for me. Bad roads, lots of pot holes and speed bumps down here. So I might even go with 50 ones.
A question though.....Why do you have smaller sidewalls in the rear and bigger in the front?

Don't be a bully you dipstick!

thats my point....I dont. The sidewall measurement is almost the same even though one is a 45 and one is a 40. it all depends on the width and height of the tire. With AWD vehicles you wanna try to keep all four tires close in overall diameter. I believe the 285 40 and 255 45 are the same overall diameter...even though the width and sidewall are different.

Re: n00b Rim help!

what i'm saying is....depending on the width....a 4 series tire can have a sidewall very close to a 45 series tire

Re: n00b Rim help!

Ok that calculator Frankie used made it all make sense for me and I was toying around with it a bit.
When using wider rear rims....the front sidewall needs to be bigger in order to get the same diameter all around.
Don't really understand the math behind it....but that calculator showed it was so.

So for me. In order to not go below 45 and still get the same diameter, I'd have to go 285/45/20 rear and 255/50/20 front.

You really saved me guys. Coz I would have gone with 45+45. Very valuable info provided.
Thanks again!

Re: n00b Rim help!

Thanks Scott. Was mentally set on 9 wide front and 10 back(was so easy because you already told me the sizes and all). So the 8.5 got me somewhat confused

Re: n00b Rim help!

Not to highjack this thread but I'm in the same boat. Totally new at this...first post! Have always leased and never did anything to my cars. Just bought a 2010 Laredo with a Hemi. After looking at all these topics, I'm so confused with tire sizes, offsets and such...worried about rubbing and all that comes with a larger tire. I was looking at 18's but someone said it'll look small with black on the wheel. I think I want 20's...not going to do any offroading. We get enough snow in PA 6 months of the year. I found these wheels I like and wanted to make sure they will work. Haven't decided on the tires...never heard of Sunny Tires. Can someone confirm these will work without any issues? I don't want to walk into a tire place and be talked into something I won't be happy with. Thanks!
