Re: New LED headlight for 2014 grand Cherokee Laredo

For those that have purchased these lights, how was the shipping time? Was it as scheduled or run early/late. Im going to be doing some work to these with a friend and am just trying to plan things out.

New LED headlight for 2014 grand Cherokee Laredo

I got them sooner than expected. I would plan to have them at your door in about 9 days time. They got to me 6 or 7 days after I ordered them so about a week's time for me. I'm in New York at the moment and they were shipped from California.

They're currently sitting in the box still just because I wanted to put them on when I install my grille inserts. Plus commuting on the LI Expressway would have me worrying about them everyday haha.

Edit: let us know how it goes for you. I see them more as a short term product, but that is mostly because I have no way of knowing how reliable they are over time. If these are the only product of this type ever made for our 14+ WK2 I might have to keep stock up on extra pairs if they look great but don't last more than a year. They definitely look and feel solid like OEM.

When I purchased mine, it took me 3 days. It. Was quick considering that I live in California.

Re: New LED headlight for 2014 grand Cherokee Laredo

Just wondering when you all say "might not last long" or "the life of these lights..." you are referring to the LED strips correct?

Also plug and play... Fzabala, do you by any chance have a picture of the back of the whole housing?, I assume there has to be a cable or connector for the LED strips, just wondering how it would be plug and play.

And the comment about the LEDs not coming on with DRL, you have to actually turn on the headlights/parking lights for the strips to light up? wouldn't that also turn on the orange blinker lights and tails lights LEDs?

As you can see I am confused.

Don't take my words too seriously haha. What I meant when I said I fear they might not last long has nothing to do with how the lights look or feel. They're solid, look and feel like OEM. I just can't help but wonder about their longevity considering they are only available on Ebay, and no other information is out there on these.

And yes you do have to manually turn these on

I dont have a rear picture of these headlights because I had already installed them to my car. Too much trouble having to remove the bumper again just to get a pic of the rear headlights. When I say plug in play. I literally mean plug and play. No hassle at all. Just plugs like the stock headlights that come standard on the Laredo and limited. No need to worry. So far these lights are solid and I have no issues so far. Makes your car look aggressive.

Thank you both for your responses. To bad the true DRL switch does not work on these.

My concern with the longevity of any aftermarket headlight would be the plastic lenses. In the past the plastic tended to age and yellow quicker than OEM. Luckily it seems like this manufacturer is a little more legit.

This may have already been covered and I understand that you have to engage them manually with the switch, but did you need to go into your head unit settings and turn off the drl function or did you leave everything the way it was?

Here are a few pics of the led brightness during the day, I'm working with a local shop to replace the led strip with a brighter alternative and so swap out the projectors with Lexus rx350 projectors and sti lenses...I'll try to post some pictures as the project progress so you can see before and after

Re: New LED headlight for 2014 grand Cherokee Laredo

If you want the LED strip to be always on when the car is on, you will have to connect the LEDs to a fuse and either make your own kind of harness or split your cars wires. I just split the wires, but if you don't want to do that you could make a simple harness that ends the middle wire and takes in the new wire for the middle.

The LED connection is the middle wire for the blinkers
(big red-ish pink plug). I ran a wire from a fuse (F100 - 10A - Active Damping **only turns on with ignition) to both headlights. (I put a small hole into the fuse box for the wire)
Cut the middle wire on the blinkers, about a inch before the connector, and add the new wire. Tape off the old wire, add a cap to the new one and tape off.
plug in the headlights and you should be good to go.

I was hoping to make it simple and hook up the led to the projectors and split the wires, but the projectors voltage seems to fluctuate between 6 and 8v. The LEDs need 12v (which F100 fuse puts out) for them to work right. They have a constant 6v sent to them when the car is on, but they do not power on until it gets 12v.

The nice thing about having it this way is that I can keep my projectors off of DRL since the led strip will always be on.

Sorry, didn't take any pictures during setup.

I drove it for about 3 hours yesterday, the new wires were not hot and everything else seemed to operate normally.

I have a 2014 limited, I don't think the 2015 would be any different.
