Yes they are the same. As long as it's in good working condition (like from a mule vehicle) I may go for a used one. I just worry about used life saving devices you know. I want to know it's going to work if I ever need it to.

Cool! I'll document it and post up once completed.
Today I picked up a 2012 steering column from a Chrysler test mule.
Manual adjust, telescoping and tilting!
As we can see from my original column there is a steel plate that the column attaches to (pic below). This plate will have to be modified to adapt the new 2012 column. All measurements indicate this should not be an issue, but I may have to weld up a new plate, not sure yet.
Now some pics of the new column I took apart today.
If anyone out there with a WK2 or a new Durango can take a pic of what this (the splined shaft in the pic above) attaches to under the column (there should be an intermediate shaft then a U joint before it goes through the firewall to the top of the steering rack) that would be awesome.
FYI, becareful there are knee airbags down there.
I'll also be going to my local dealership tomorrow and checking out one of theirs.
As a bonus the steering column will not only be tilt but also telescoping. It also came with the steering wheel damper and bolt.
Now I have to take apart my 05 and see how it all is connected and I'll probably have to weld on some atachments to the 2012 column to allow for the left and right stalks to mount to. I will also have to check the clock spring mounting tabs.
Tear down of mine will be next week sometime.
So far so good, more to come tomorrow.
