Paint the Grill Mesh Inserts

I bought a 13 Trailhawk WK2 last week. It is silver. I want to make the mesh inserts in the grill red to match the tow hooks and red stripe on my hood. What would be the best way to do that? I haven't plastidipped before but I could try.

Re: Paint the Grill Mesh Inserts

Throwing caution to the wind. I bought me some red plasti-dip at Lowe's and went for it. I'm very happy with the results.

The outer grill part came off real easy. I took it to the car wash and washed off the bigger clumps of dirt. Then took it home and cleaned it fine with some rubbing alcohol. I watched some plasti-dip videos on YouTube and went for it. I put about 3 coats and it came our perfect.

Masking, put some paper behind the grille so I would keep my rad clean.

Re: Paint the Grill Mesh Inserts

To each their own. I was thinking of doing more red, like the emblems. I get a little fatigued of everyone doing the blacks and the grays.

Re: Paint the Grill Mesh Inserts

There is a HUGE difference between accenting something with black/gray and accenting with red/orange/yellow. That goes for more than just cars.

Re: Paint the Grill Mesh Inserts

Looks good to me too just like the grill of the original white Trailhawk prototype. I've been contemplating doing the same as I have the same bright silver as yours. Again to each their own just like putting an export "Blackhawk" badge on a US Altitude.ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1414371767.022596.jpg

BigCat,

I have been admiring your off-road trailhawk pictures. They look great. What rack did you get? Di d you paint your brake calipers?

Thanks, the rack is a Gobi Stealth. I love it because it is low profile and uses the original roof rail mounting points but distributes the weight across the entire roof allowing for heavier load capacities. It also incorporates crossbars into the rack/basket so you don't have to swap accessories; no either/or decisions.

I went with MGP caliper covers rather than painting at least for right now. Like you I really like the silver, black and red color combination and wanted some red accent for the wheels/side view.

I also had Nate (vendor ReBadge Design) make a couple badges to accent the interior
ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1414424710.110243.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1414424752.164723.jpg

Added a little red in the engine area thanks to Billet Technology with a catch can and engine dress kit (no good pics)

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1414425554.979549.jpg

Also added some undercarriage red LEDs and two Rigid Industries Duallys in red in the lower grill/Air dam area.

Also added indoor puddle lights

Looks great. Always good to get some ideas from someone who has a Jeep just like mine. Do you have a sunroof on there? Doesn't your rack cover it?

I went with the RRO rack, and added a light bar. Here is the rack before the light bar:
