Re: POLL: Choose My Rim 22" Wheels

Dude, get 285/35/22's, they have the same sidewall height as a 265/40/22 but are wider, and the width doesn't look "stretched" on the rim.

So I got bored and decided to check out that size on a tire calculator, and its very similiar!!! The thing is, I might have rubbing issues? You think I would?

I run that size on mine bro, I've only ever got the slightest of slight rubs in the front on a really wierd steering angle with suspension compressed. Even then it's not even enough of a rub to leave a mark to see where it touched. Heard it touch like three times in 20 months.

Re: POLL: Choose My Rim 22" Wheels

Ben - can you post a couple pics of your wheels with those size tires on them? I really like your idea with this sizing...also, how wide are your rims you have?

Re: POLL: Choose My Rim 22" Wheels

you might want to find pictures of someone with 265 35 22 compared to the 265 40 22. According to the tire calc the 265 35 22 are the ones with the closest diameter to your stock setup at .96% difference.

The 265 40 22 have a 1/2 inch bigger sidewall which causes the overall diameter difference than the stock setup to be at 4.36% (your recommended to stay within 3% because of brake failure etc.) Really its up to you which one to go with, If it was me I would try to find pictures of 22 inch rims with 265 35 22 tires and see how they look. If you think the sidewall is too skinny then go up but it will only add 1/2 an inch. Honestly though if your that concerned about sidewall you should be getting 20's not 22's IMO.

Re: POLL: Choose My Rim 22" Wheels

I'm may be a little more biased than most, but I say BLACK!

Also, I'm rolling on 265/40-22 (and lowered). Wanted to stay away from the 265/35-22 due to previous "thin" tire experiences on some of my other cars.

Re: POLL: Choose My Rim 22" Wheels

Well I think Marlin suggested:

285/35/22 - sidewall 3.9", diameter 29.9"
vs
265/40/22 - sidewall 4.2", diameter 30.3"

the diameter for my stock set-up is 29.53" so I think either one of these set-ups would be fine...with the 285 though it is slightly shorter and a little wider, but still within an acceptable variance

Hopefully Ben (Marlin) will chime in with some info...how wide are your rims????
