refinishing srt8 wheels

hey guys, ive got two srt8 oem wheels that are in really good condition except one has two spots of road rash. Its not that noticable but behind the spokes there is a little rust/weathered spots inside the rim. Im thinking of getting them refinished so they look new. Do you guys think they will look the same as like they came out of the jeep factory or like the other two I have? what are your guys experience with this or opinions

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

I have seen SRt wheels that have been refinshed and they look exactly the same. I guess it depends on who does the repair

Depends on the expertise of the company you choose to do the job. I had one of my Charger SRT8 wheels done here as my youngest son curb rashed it rather extensively.....and when I put it up beside the non refinished wheels, the only way I knew it was different was the inside surface of the wheel was slightly different colour and texture than the ones on the car.

Should have read all the posts... guess I said what Scott said... just used more words....

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

hmm i see, Yea I was reading around and I read that the srt oem wheels have a like powdercoating type clear put on in the factory. Where as when you get them refinished although they wil look new they wont have as good of a clearcoat on them. I dont think I will touch the front of them since I have read this, the front looks great anyway I am just concerned you might be able to see the weathered spots on the inside of the rim. Here are two pictures of the rims from my camera phone.

As you can see the finish is great on the front

On the inside of the rim though it has this stuff. Anyone have experience or ideas to get it off. Im concerned it might show through the big spokes on the rims.Im not sure if jeep puts that powdercoating type clear on the inside wells?

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

I think you should be able to get that off. Not sure if you can use a brillo pad or something like that.....but a good stiff cleaner should work....just dont get it on the face of the wheels.

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

i was wondering if I could, i havent had a chance to clean them since I got them. But I noticed some came off from my fingernail. I think some of it will be tougher than other parts. Do you have any ideas of a cleaner to use on it?

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

simple green and a good stiff brush or scrubby pad should take care of it

Re: refinishing srt8 wheels

I used simple green and a 3M metal finishing pad. It worked great and took it all off. Thanks for the advise Scott. That simple green is some good stuff.
