Like the title says ..I've been toying with the idea has anyone done this if so pics please...I know ill havta do a little re inforcment ..please help with ideas
The "gutter" doesn't bother me as much as the front bolt holes...because you can see them so easily. I bought some screws that had a very flat head that I painted to match, but I didn't like it. Maybe I'll give those push-in plastic things a shot. I'd really like to go without over the winter. Less for snow and ice to grab on to. Thanks again man...I might find myself trying this again later on this week.
Well, rails came off today...and I used those plastic push-in jobbies Marty did. I have to say, I think I like it! No pics yet though...need to give it a proper cleaning before I can do that. I've got a wax ring around where the standoffs used to be and some funk in the rain gutter. We'll see what a little Ultimate Compound can do with it tomorrow after a bath. Then I'll post up some pics.
It almost seemed like it used to be double-sided tape...but from years of water sitting in there it turned into some gelatinous rubberized butyl goop. I got the majority of it out...hopefully some light polishing will get any residue off. I took some hard-core scrubbing to get that crap out from under my fingernails though! It's getting a bath tonight, so hopefully I can make the rest disappear.
Looks nice, although I think I will be leaving them on, I do occasionally use them. I just took the cross bars off since they are easy to put back on if needed. At least I can push snow from back to front without hitting the bars, not to mention makes washing/waxing easier
