side moldings! 05 grand cherokee

so i have a question, if anyone can help please feel free to comment!
i have an 05 grand cherokee, and those came out with black thick side moldings on the doors and i want to change them to 08 style moldings like this http://www.google.com/imgres?q=08+wh...w=1440&bih=705

my 05 has side moldings like this
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=05+wh...w=1440&bih=705

but its a 6 year old car, if i took those thick moldings off and put more narrow ones, is the paint gonna be too aged or too noticable to do that? or would it be possible to buff it out?

Re: side moldings! 05 grand cherokee

i replaced my thick moldings with platinum overland moldings a few months ago. there is no difference in the covered paint vs the uncovered paint. the only thing is that you have to remove a glue line on the bottom of the thick moldings with some goo gone.

Wow! So under the thick black plastic moldings is the same size slot for the chrome moldings?! I wanted to upgrade to chrome ones but gave up due to the size difference, I thought the chrome ones wouldn't fit on my 05 Laredo..

yep, because on the limited and overland they had chrome and platinum moldings. so the slot is there, you just have to remove the black moldings and the glue residue

Re: side moldings! 05 grand cherokee

What did you guys use to remove the glue? Goof off gunna do the job? what did you use to apply the new ones? Its just a matter of ripping the old ones off right? No retaining clips or screws?

Thanks!

Re: side moldings! 05 grand cherokee

i replaced my thick moldings with the chrome ones a few months ago also, there was no differenece in the paint. The glue is a pain though i still have some leftover, i need to get some goo gone on it.

installation is super easy, rip the old ones off and put the new ones in. theres one piece of 3m tape on the front doors and thats it, otherwise the tabs stick into holes in the door.
