Yeah well I noticed the system is pretty good, even in corners. Remember, just because a car is oncoming doesn't mean your high beams are blinding him. This is especially true if you are on the "outside lane" in a curve. Your headlights are pointed straight out in front of the vehicle, into oblivion. They are nowhere near the oncoming driver's eye.

Of course, the reverse is true if you are on the "inside lane" in a curve.

Probably not. Do you have relays running to your HID's? If not, I'd try those first. I have everything relayed on mine (highs/lows/fogs) and I have never once had a FTL (failure-to-light).

Yes I have relays. Everything worked fine till I got a fresh ser of bulbs. All I did was swap bulbs and now I have this issue.

Well that story kinda tells itself then, doesn't it? Is it the same bulb that always does the FTL or does it change? If it's the same one, I'd say you got a crap bulb. If it's different, I might try a set of cancellers.

Re: SmartBeams with HID High Beams

it was the samb bulb but yesterday it was the other side. IDK I give up. LOL I don't want to remove the bulb cause I have an awesome cut-off now and I did with my last set till I pulled them out and put them back in and it wasn't the same. Also these bulbs were a motherphucker to turn in. Are those 3 hex head screws adjusters to tighten the bulb in place or something?

Yeah, they are to adjust the tension on the bulbs. If the bases that they retrofitted onto the HID bulbs are thicker/thinner than your stock bulbs, you can adjust the tension using those screws.

Changing a set of bulbs should not affect your cutoff, unless you went to a different size/type of bulb.

If you are getting intermittent FTL's, I'd check the power and ground connections for your relays. If those connections are even the slightest bit corroded/loose, you are going to get more voltage drop than if you would have hooked the HID kit directly to your headlight wiring.

Re: SmartBeams with HID High Beams

Ok I'll check the grounds. We had a lot of wet weather with all the snow and rain lately. And thats good to know about those screws. That should help with removal and instal of the bulbs nextime. Last time I changed then the bulb did the full 1/4 turn but it didn't fit snug in place. I guess thats when those screws come in to play. Thats good to know now. Thanks Bro!!!!

Had the same problem when I converted my fogs to HID's. Bulb was really loose. So loose, in fact, that it let water get into them. Took the fogs outta the bumper, dried them out, put the bulb back in, and tightened those screws down. No problems since.

No cutting. It is a computer setting that can be enabled using the StarScan tool. IF you can talk the dealership into doing it. I posted the sequence elsewhere on this site but the basic idea is that the "Fog Lamp Output" gets changed to "Export". No wiring required.

As for the SmartBeams, last attempt was an epic fail. I am running out of ideas. I need some sort of circuit that filters out the PWM signal and gives you only a 12V on or off signal. I thought of using a solid-state relay, but my research has told me that this is a long shot, too. Still on my radar. In fact, it is soon to become an even bigger deal for me because I am probably going to copy Rob and do quad bi-xenon projectors in the near future. Since there is no warm-up time involved with the high-beams in a setup like this, the utility of your high-beams would be be regained.

Like I said, I'm still working on it. Eventually I'll stumble onto something that will do what I am looking for. Then I will share with the world.
