Re: SRT8 Grill on a WJ?

Yeah I see what you're saying about the thicker mesh Scott. Good idea, I'd never have thought of that

If I were to do it again I would use some better/thicker mesh like Scott said above.
That link was a great help I've been on wjjeeps, loads of times and never noticed that before lol. Big help seeing some already done, although I'm now considering chrome instead of black.

Suppose I could try both, cause I can pick the mesh up for 10 off ebay.

Re: SRT8 Grill on a WJ?

I have the SRT grill installed, but for below the license plate area I picked up a length of "gutter mesh" like someone mentioned above at the local hardware store, HomeDepot. Not sure if you have HomeDepot's near you. It was about $2 for a 6"x36" piece. I sanded it with a medium sand paper, cleaned it really good, then used a good primer and black top coat paint. I havent installed it yet, I think to install it correctly I need to remove my bumper to secure it from behind properly.

We've got similar stores here and prices are about the same. I saw something on another site (forgot to bookmark it). The guy had done the main grill and lower segment on a Jeep liberty or patriot and he basically fixed it with cable ties. Not something I would do, I'd rather have the fixings hidden. I've a feeling I am going to have to remove the bumper though.

Thats what im thinking also. I could easily go under the car and zip tie the mesh in, but because the shape of the bumper is curved I think to ensure it fits right against the opening I need to remove the bumper and secure it with mechanical fasteners. If I zip tie it there will probably be gaps between the mesh and bumper at areas. Taking off the bumper is not hard, im just waiting for warmer weather around here. Plus with the bumper off I can finally mount my HID ballasts down good instead of them just zip tied where ever I was able to shove them in the engine bay.

Re: SRT8 Grill on a WJ?

When removing the bumper, or any plastic piece for that matter, take your time so you dont break the plastic fasteners. I have removed my inner door panels so many times without breaking one fastener, but with my grill I ended up breaking almost all of them. I found some cheap replacements on Ebay. Also the local auto stores sell plastic type fasteners, mostly the push in type, they are not the direct replacement type, but some will work temporarily if needed until you get the correct ones.

Yeah I had an 'incident' with a friends Jeep and it's bumper, but I broke the fasteners trying to re fit it after she had somehow managed to run over her own bumper! Don't ask. All I can say is when I arrived the bumper was firmly wedged under it with one end sticking out from the passenger (UK) side.

To this day I don't how it happened

buy some wires mesh like this from anywhere near you, that looks like diamond cut mesh- measure and cut the acquired mesh to the inner portion of your factory grille.

then paint it black or what ever color you choose. remove your stock grille and remove the insert behind it (the black insert) and then take your painted new mesh and snap fit it in to the original insert clips.

link to soemthing like that^^ below:

http://www.duraflexbodykits.com/univ...l-p-84792.html

as for the bottom, it will be more work. ive seen it done before, so its possible.

i did this on my 88 jeep cherokee XJ. fairly the same "how to do it" since the grille are virtually the same just different shape. later down the line i added the billet look on the outer portion of the grilles housing.

gl though bro
Nice ost bro!

+ rep for you!

Re: SRT8 Grill on a WJ?

Well I've ordered up some chrome/ silver mesh from ebay. So fingers crossed it gets here quick. I'll post up some pics as soon as I'm done. If the chrome isn't up to much I'll get some black mesh instead. Only 10.99 per sheet, so can't complain.
