Vinyled pillars

This is next on my on do list. I know there's only a few of those with this done, but I would like to know if you or the installer removed any of the trim to wrap the vinyl around the pillar or if it's just laid on top of the paint and terminated when it reaches the trim...?

Re: Vinyled pillars

Just got quoted $15 for a 24"x36" sheet of matte/flat black vinyl from a local shop. Seems like a fair price and big enough sheet, no?

Wow, so are you thinking 36" is going to be too short?

Any idea how much Pete would charge for an 18x60 + shipping?

What color did you go with?

Any idea if others have removed the window trim?

Re: Vinyled pillars

im waiting for an answer right now Matt. I sent him the email yesterday. I way over measured.

but I was thinking I always want a factory edge at the top. and you need somwe overlap to trim to gert under the trim. and I want to make sure I give at least one do-over...........

Im hoping to do this for 20/25 shipped but I cant guarantee it yet.

the only trim I would take off is the lower horizontal. the rest you work with.

Ok, gotcha. I just guesstimated those numbers, but I'm going to go out and measure now and see what I'm comfortable with. I agree, at least one do-over.

Isn't there a slight curvature at the top of where the vinyl will be terminated (therefor negating the need to always use a factory edge)?

I guess I'll check when I go out and measure.

As far as getting the vinyl to flush with the trim -- I'll take off the lower horizontal trim, but remember that the rear trim is all one piece with the glass, so that's probably going to stay. I'm guess I'll just try to tuck maybe an 1/8-1/4 of overlap into the window trim.

Re: Vinyled pillars

Okay, so I'm with you -- I'm going with 18"x50" -- I want about 5" per 1/2 pillar (10" per pillar), so that will leave me with an extra 10" (good for two do-overs, haha). And you're right, the top is flat, so factory edge for that. Just quickly looking at the moldings and trim it looks as though a lot of it can be easily tucked and secured. I'm going to pick some up today (assuming the color is a good match - they say it's a matte/flat black).

I'll keep you guys updated and either install it today or tomorrow. I'll do a detailed how-to with lots of pics for reference.
