WK and XK windshield upper molding

The windshield upper header molding was deleted on all WK and XK Jeeps built after November 7, 2006, resulting in a very unfinished and unattractive look.

The top photo is without the molding, the bottom photo is with the molding:

The molding is made of soft rubber with a stiff backing (not hard plastic like the windshield side moldings). It is designed to be installed underneath the top of the windshield, so adding it without removing the windshield can be a little tricky.

A back edge on the molding needs to be cut off in order to install it over the windshield. This can be done with a sharp knife. I took my Jeep to a glass shop and had them install the molding using the normal black adhesive used for windshield installs.

If you look carefully in the photo you can see a slight rippling across the molding. We tried as hard as we could to flatten the molding out while it was drying but still ended up with some ripples. However, in my opinion it still looks much better than not having the molding at all.

Before I did this "mod" I had checked with several glass shops in the area to see if they happened to have an alternative molding made for a different vehicle that would fit the WK, no luck. Maybe someone else interested in doing this mod will find a better alternative, a molding that would lay perfectly flat.

The part # for the WK OEM molding is 55394511AB. MSRP is $14.85.

Rear view of the molding. The lower part is the channel designed to fit around the top edge the windshield.
Part of the channel has to be cut off in order to install the molding without removing the windshield.

my 06 wk came with the molding but my wife's 07 xk didn't. we had to add it to hers because of wind noise above 60mph. we actually had the windshield replaced 3 times(under warranty) before i suggested adding the molding. the molding had been on for about 6 months and so far no noise. there were a lot of things chrysler did in 06 to cut costs.

I'm having that wind noise issue too. I have the radio up when it's just me in the jeep so it's not that bad but when others are in the car it's like the window is cracked.

one other note about my wife's, it wouldn't do it in the morning on her way to work when the outside temperature was 55-60 degrees. after her jeep baked in the sun all day and she'd jump on the interstate, there was this horrible whistling sound. we had it at the dealership 4-5 times before they'd even do anything to it because they never could duplicate the sound(they always had it first thing in the a.m.).

well i can get a new windshield installed for 125 through my dads shop. Im just waiting for my current one to crack. if the windshield isnt sealed properly or it was installed wrong I dont see why the dealership wouldnt replace it. I mean I understand if it was cracked all to hell and then it was making noise. But if its the stock glass and it was installed incorrectly they would replace it under warranty.
