Re: XenonDepot Help!

Well Kyle if you are sure you have all of the proper pieces (ie good ballasts, relays and bulbs) then you need to do what Matt told me to do: RECHECK everything! I had plugged the connections for the ballast in backwards...and just by looking at them u can think they are plugged in properly...I am not saying this is the problem, but it can be something so simple. Just take a step back and walk through your steps...if that doesn't work then it has to be the grounds (again assuming you have working components)

sorry you are having trouble dude

Re: XenonDepot Help!

Alright guys, did some more stuff to the Jeep today.

So me and my dad did some thinking, we decided to MAY be the relay harness that is giving us the troubles, since the "switch" within the harness may be stuck.

So we put my dads new relay harness in, and it booted up just fine, the lights havent gone off yet. Butttt we decided to look at my harness I originally had in the Jeep, opened it up and BAM...RUST RUST RUST RUST RUSTTTTT....then we decided to compare relay harnesses, my relay harness was missing the "rubber" coating that goes around the switch to seal up the black box, this is why I think water got stuck within the switch, and with freezing temperatures, provented the switch to move.

This is all a thought, could work for a couple days and shut off again, but now we've officially checked the bulb, ballast, relay, ground, and factory harness.

if this doesnt work, im OUT OF IDEAS!!

Re: XenonDepot Help!

i dont want to be a hater here but the first post you made about this issue, IIRC, was solved by letting 30 pounds of snow, ice, salt, sand, etc melt from your wiring.

that would have been my first clue that maybe you need to do something special and hide and waterproof ALL of the terminals and wires at that point.

dielectric grease is another great item that should be smeared over every terminal or plug that you use.

then get out the ty-wraps and black tape, that wire loom stuff and make everyt hing just like a factory install.

now i just read RUST RUST RUST - gee how did that happen. rust and water and electrical do NOT MIX.

sorry i am ranting dude, its not anything personal, its just i feel like you had that wiring subject to an extreme condition and you expected it to be fine. well its not.

hopefully steve will send you new relay harness or whatever is all rusty and everything will be fine.

there are literally dozens of people with the same rig as you that have NO issues.

Re: XenonDepot Help!

Hey robpp, I agree with your post, however I did do most of this stuff in my first install, I tied wrapped everything nice and I also used water sealed tape with electrical tape also, I have done plenty more than most people on this site have. The reason why I think water was in the relay system is because the relay was missing the rubber wrap that is wrapped around the switch to seal it from water, my relay did not have this, as my dads and my other relays had this rubber wrap. I understand your not being a hater, but the last thing I thought it would be was a relay. However I learned a lot from this, and I'm sure this simply wouldn't have happened if the relay had the rubber wrap around it. I checked all the other relays with the rubber wrap and they are perfectly fine. Simple faulty relay that's all.......
