Xentec slim ballast question

I just ordered a slim ballast 5k/5k combo from Tony (what a fantastic deal) -- anyways, I'm curious if the ballast need to "breath" and how much heat they give off. I'm the type who usually goes above and beyond when installing and plan to wrap the ballast in some sort of plastic bag protective thingy and need to know if they ballasts can handle such an environment.

Tony, I'm guessing you're the only one who will be able to answer this, but thought it may be useful to keep the question public for future reference.

Thanks.

Re: Xentec slim ballast question

I mounted my ballasts up higher in the engine bay with the wires facing down. They should be 100% water tight anyways with no need for any additional protection. They do seem to get hot, but not glowing red hot. lol. If anything you want them in the open and not covered so they can dissipate the heat from them.

Mounted inside the fender next to the batttery. The other side I ended up having to mount it lower below the K&N air filter on the CAI heat shield itself. I first had it mounted on the inner fender next to the filter but it was such a tight fit the filter would hit the ballast and it was damaging the filters metal screen.

Me? I'll go take one right now of it. For the fogs did you get relays too, I thought I heard somewhere relays are not needed for fogs, only for the lows and highs.

Re: Xentec slim ballast question

i got the relay for only the lows.... the fogs apparently don't need one according to Tcmglx (tony i think).

I still have yet to decide on hi beams.. maybe hir's or something.

Honeslty i was all set to go with HIR's but the price was so cheap. i could pass it up. I know the light could be blinding, but screw it. i'm going to try it anyways.. Maybe i'l adjust the lights to point more downward.

Re: Xentec slim ballast question

I hardly even use my highs now after installing HID lows. The light output is unreal with them.

In red is the relay that I just zip tied to a piece of metal thats there for the stock airbox mount, then in the blue is the ballast that I mounted to the CAI shield below the filter. Its out of the way and doesnt see any water from I can tell. But there's really no places to mount anything, and if I got additional HIDs for the fogs id most likely remove the bumper and mount everything nice and clean.

Re: Xentec slim ballast question

Oh, and I had HIR lows, they are brighter than stock but the color is no where near the 6500K HID's or LED bulbs in my fogs. For the price id save and do all HIDs IMO.
