Hmm.. the guy said his 3 series took about 25 yards, I'm guessing I'd need 40?

Hmm... Looking at their website now thanks for the headsup ...

Quick question, do you recall the specifics of the line you used from 3M?

xtreme_sign_guy Props for DYI! Not many can do what you did. It takes talent.

However, there is a whole lot more that goes into that $3000 retail wrap than you might think. To do a job like what you have done using calendered film (3mil) instead of cast (2mil) is considerably cheaper. 3mil film will cost a sign shop about $1.50/linear yard. Then depending on the application, I would charge it out at $6.00/sqft installed. So judging on the amount of material you used, I would have charged $1800 to do the job you did, not $3000.

For a job that would run around the 3k mark, there would be a full digital print, on a much higher grade material meant for wraps. Also the print would be laminated, incurring more cost. Now pay the designer and the shop overhead costs and $3000 is pretty cheap. I would do a job with your square foot coverage at about $3600, and it would be done in less than 1 business day, about 6 to 7 hours with one installer.

Gotta be honest... while I admire the guy's patience and attention to detail, the only thing I can say is why?

That looks freaking awesome! If you have the patience and a little vinyl skill I suppose you could pull it off. I'd love to see a close up.

LMAO! Yep, I'd be exactly the same bro - you should see me trying to put the hose away when I'm done and that's not even difficult!

HOWEVER....

I've almost decided I'm gonna remove the vinyl from mine in the next few weeks. I'm a dead picky sod (see previous detailing threads ) and washing the truck tonight there are just loads of little bits that I'm not in the least happy with...

I'll post up pics sometime but I just noticed a large area has just started to peel away from the top of the tailgate - guessing its the sun... I know I can take it back and get it redone but at this moment in time I'm thinking of just putting in a day to get the stuff off.

Little niggles which in the grand scheme to me are major such as; door handles which show obvious seams/edges fraying, sides of doors where it is beginning to fray and the rear bumper is as bumpy as my face without shaving for a week.

Fact is it's been on for just 4/5? months and it already is showing roughness at the edges. If I wasn't anal I'd stick with it, perhaps get the bigger problems fixed but it would still look pretty poor in my eyes. I guess I love paint/gloss too and to replace that it would need to be something that vinyl just can't be.

My advice would be; do a few parts (door handles and maybe the roof) and see how you feel about it after a few months....

Sorry if this is a little off-topic but its kinda related to the OP.

Damn, sorry to hear Marty.

Maybe a heads up to those looking to drop some coin on vinyling their roof.
