Re: You guys gotta read this, some inspiring stuff

Thanks Matt.

I suppose depending on the outlay on the roof which is an easy panel it could be okay but it would depend how much you like cleaning your car too.

I'm one of the most careful car cleaners out, I done 1 1/2 years with just v. minor swirling on the lower sections of the doors. However, every wash I just feel I'm making it worse and it now appears stained when its dry too. Must have only washed it 5 times at the most (bad Winter so weekly washes haven't been happening) and its staining FFS, I'm not using harsh chemicals or anything...

To say I'm p***ed would be putting it lightly, but at least it will look flawless again with it off...

[EDIT] why does my heading say "My Jeep: 2010 2.4L FC"? How do I change that?

Re: You guys gotta read this, some inspiring stuff

what kind of vinyl did they use? the proper vinyl has a lot to do with it. You just cant get any ole' vinyl and wrap a vehicle that is exposed to the elements.

Re: You guys gotta read this, some inspiring stuff

Hey guys, just to kinda re-kindle my love for matte black trucks/cars ...

I've been looking into this again (I know, I know) and I bought a heat gun and various other installation tidbits in hopes of doing it myself (once again, I know, flame suit on).

If I do it, it's only gonna be for a year or two, and I'd do it with Oracal 751 Matte Black (Only thing I see as being worth my money, refuse to pay upwards of a grand for plastic ... then again I'm an electronics whore, but that's a whole nother level of paying too much for plastic ..). What do you guys think? That'd cost me about $400

or,

Am I better off just buying a nice Porter Cable polisher and making my paint look as damn near perfect as I can, and maybe picking up some vinyl for the roof only? Thanks guys. Any input is appreciated. I do live in Canada, so I guess the vinyl would take a harsh beating.

Random thought in my head. What do you guys say?

if u think ur up for it, do the matte black...but honestly, id rather see a flat white...IMO it would look better, since nobody does it, but i like being different.. good luck!!

I'm definitely up for it, especially if I use the same vinyl the guy on e90 did. That vinyl is only about $200 for twice as much as I need.

My only worries are longevity and if it'll even look good. I obviously want it to last for atleast a year (Which it should) but I just don't know if that's the best bang for my buck. I spend $250-300 getting it all done (and countless hours), and in a couple of months my truck will look worse than it does now (or so I've been told). So really, I'm stuck. Don't know which way to go!

How bad is the Oracal 651/631 that he used on a car's paint? The guy on e90 said he apparently peeled it off just to check his paint, and it came off with no issues and no damage to the paint, and this was a couple months down the road.

... The I hear marty's story about how he got it professionally done and its already showing defects. Bah, I think too much. Should be more impulsive.

Re: You guys gotta read this, some inspiring stuff

... Well I called uscutter today and I can get a huge roll of 751 (Which is not calendered so it won't shrink up in the heat, 7 year gaurantee, won't eff up my paint ... etc. etc.) for $430 with taxes and the squeegees i'd need shipping to an american address (I'm a half hour from the border, so no big deal there). What do you guys think? Dare I do it? i've got the money and I've got the info I needed. Thoughts anyone!?

I will regret not atleast trying to matte black my truck, and I know once I start I'm the type of guy that has the patience to follow through. Also, I have a 3 week long break during xmas for me to do this all during. And a large garage that's basically all mine!!!

I think it would look great if you take your time and use a quality product. I love the look...and if the time is there, and you have a great product then I would totally go for it!
