Re: 0-60

Thanks to kkreit01 for putting all of those 0-60 times in one place.

The mid 7's for the 5.7 is a little frustrating. I've heard others say it is due to the gearing.

The 5.7 has 360 HP/390 TQ at 5,210 lbs for Overland 4x4.

By comparison, BMW X5 35i has 300 HP/300 TQ at 4,960 lbs and 6.4 sec 0-60. The BMW X5 50i has 400 HP/450 at 5,357 lbs and 5.3 sec 0-60.

Curious what the new Ford Explorer Sport with 350 HP/350 TQ at 4,859 lbs will do with 0-60... sub 6 seconds?

And the BMWs and the Explorer can add 50+ HP with a simple ECU tune.

Jeep can and should do better than this on acceleration IMO.

I know there is the SRT8, but an extra 20k to get better acceleration isn't necessary.

I love my Limited 4x4, but agree with mtnjeep that "Would sure like to see a blower kit of some kind compatible with the warranty and EVIC."

It would be so nice to have a real offroad SUV (which the Explorer and X5 won't be) with a bit more acceleration than the current 5.7.

Re: 0-60

^ I couldn't agree more. Why detune the Hemi in the Jeep? It should have the same HP/Torque as the Ram. My '09 Hemi Aspen (2wd) was rated 376/401, and it weighed in right at 5000lbs. I never timed it, but it felt way quicker than a low 7 sec 0-60, and I surprised many. It felt quicker than my car from a 30 mph run, and my car does 0-60 in 6.7 secs.

For reference, C&D also tested an 09 Ram 1500 SLT Crew Cab 4x4 -- weighing 5680 lbs. It was rated 390HP/407ft-lbs. When new, it went 0-60 in 6.7 secs. After 40K miles, it went 0-60 in 6.4 secs. Those numbers are more like it, and should be easily attainable in a much lighter, more weight-balanced Grand Cherokee!

If the Pentastar has some decent gears (3:92), it should be pulling mid-7 sec 0-60s. I'd be willing to sacrifice 1+ MPG for lower gears. Those with tow package should for sure get lower gears.

It bothers me as well that our hemi is detuned compared to the Ram, both in hp and torque. They probably did this so there was a greater difference in hp with the Regular WKS compared to the SRT8. I tuned my 05 hemi with a Diablo Trinity and will do the same for my 2012 as soon as they crack the code.

Re: 0-60

Was able to get a few more runs & interpolated from the data recorder 0-60 looks like 7.6-8.0 seconds. Was running a bit warmer: coolant at 215-219 & IAT 114-120 which is too warm for me by about 20-25F for both & may be a factor in the slower times.

Judging from 50 mph at 6300 rpm in first, it does not look like the towing package gets any lower gears, numbers are consistant with a 30.6" tire, 3.59 1st, 3% slip, and 3.09 axle. 6 speed with 3.45 axle would be nice but suspect the marketters would be uspset if many recorded faster 0-60 with the V6 than the Hemi.

Did receive the "hose", 68022170AB has been superceeded by 68022170AD. Not cheap but includes the bellows, straps, and IAT sensor. Picture below.

The radiator by the throttle body is easy to remove, the plenium in the cat of the radiator air, not so (Hemi has a plenium in the same place). This means that to cool down the intake air both the path needs to be more direct and the air coming off the radiator needs to be cooler. I see a 180F thermostat in its future.

I suspect the little plenium next to the big one is a tuned silencer.

Interesting thing is that both the Hemi and the PentaStar use the same air filter which would explain why I see very little drop even at 6300 rpm. In fact from the bellows to the snorkle above the radiator support, both are the same which I suspects saves C-J a few cents but means pleanty of capacity for a 3.6.

Re: 0-60

Gearing in the diffs and how the transmission is set up is as important if not more important than engine size when it comes to "get-up-and-go". Chrysler, like most other companies, is going for fuel mileage. My chevy truck has 4.10 gears and I have been looking at getting a new one and to my suprise that is not even an option this year. Ford and Chevy are both selling truck with base gears in the 3.5 range and higher which for most folks don't matter but when you are towing in mountains the lower gears sure come in handy. The Hemi is a great engine but no matter what performance mods you throw at it you still have to overcome the really high gear ratios and the V6 is even worse with a 3.06 ratio.

Re: 0-60

^ Yep. All they care about is MPG. In '09, if you had the Tow Package on an Aspen/Durange with Hemi, you automatically got the 3:92 gears. That would be a sweet set-up. Now, there's no option for us. It should get better with the 8spd. The 8-spd improved acceleration in the Chargers quite a bit.
