1 Day old 2013 Laredo V8....exchange?

Hi Everyone, Thanks for building such great community of Jeep owners. After browsing this site and after years of sales pitches from other Jeep owners, yesterday I pulled the trigger on a loaded Laredo with Quadra-Track II and the V8!

To my dismay, about 30 miles into my first drive while climbing a slight hill at about 50 mph, I noticed a shutter throughout the vehicle a that was persistent until I feed it enough fuel to downshift. The shutter continues. From reading other threads it sounds like a common problem, but on a brand new 2013? Is this something drivers really live with or should I get a new ride? On top of that the check engine light came on shortly afterwards and has stayed on after checking the gas cap and several drive cycles.

Thanks for your feedback!

You should get rid of it in my opinion, and immediately.

Exchanging it may be easier said than done; no matter how much the situation may suck. Does your state allow for a "cooling off" period? If not, they'll probably just treat it as a warranty issue.

take it back and do not leave until they give you a replacement, after a few thousand miles maybe but problems right off the lot no way.. i wouldn't stand for it at all.

And when they lock the doors for the night and go home, do you sleep on the sidewalk until they come back?

A replacement might be warranted, but it could be a real simple fix.

The best thing is to stay calm and first let them check the car. Be sure to document everything and if the dealer can't take care of it to your satisfaction, go to Chrysler customer service. And, check to see how your state lemon laws will treat this situation.

Re: 1 Day old 2013 Laredo V8....exchange?

I'll be interested to see how this thing progresses, but I'd put money on Jeep and/or the dealer not giving a replacement regardless of how much yelling, threatening and chest-pounding is done. On the interwebs...maybe. But in real life...there are warranties, lemon laws and other means of resolving such issues. It's just not as easy as going back to the dealer the next day and demanding a replacement.

I agree, however, if he hasn't paid the taxes or received the title, maybe he can trade it, and the dealer can still sell it as new? Not sure if possible, but it would at least help the OP immensely, although the next person that buys it would be screwed.

Jeeps are rarely perfect right out of the box. Why not take it in for service? It is under warranty. He might even let you take your trade-in for a day or so while he works out the problems.

Re: 1 Day old 2013 Laredo V8....exchange?

Unless your state has a cooling off provision, it will be handled via warranty. Paperwork has been signed and sent electronically so you bought it, paid tax on it, and started the process to register it. The dealer can't just swap it and eat those fees, that's why they offer a warranty.
Don't get me wrong, I feel awful for anyone who picks up a brand new car and starts off with trouble immediately, but the vigilente talk does nothing once you've signed legal documents saying you own it.
As suggested try to keep level headed, and if you have a cooling off period law be firm in demanding a swap - do not let them try to fix it and burn daylight on the cooling off period. If it becomes a warranty issue ask for free stuff. I would expect the car to be fixed the first time and a nice loaner and / or free accessories / extended warrant / free maintenance out of this.
In most states the lemon law process requires the car to have been in the shop for 30 days or four times for the same issue without resolution.
Again, this is unacceptable and you have the right to expect the car to be perfect, but that's why there are warranties and lemon laws to resolve these issues. I hope that it gets resolved quickly and you can start enjoying your new car.

As much as it sucks, I'd guess that it just requires a simple fix. It's likely an electronic rather than a mechanical fix. My 2002 GC would downshift at the slightest incline when it was new. They replaced the throttle position sensor and all was well. My brother now drives it at 150,000 miles and it has had no further problems.

Thanks for the feedback. Found out there is no cooling off period for car sales. Oregon does have lemon laws, applicable after successive failed attempts to fix the problems and for the vehicle to be in disrepair for more than 30 days there might be a case.

So on Sunday I dropped the car off at the dealer. On Monday the service manager gave me call back and told me the jeep was ready to be picked up. He said the check engine light may have been caused by a bit of moisture in the gas line. A slight shudder he said is common during periods of light acceleration as the car is switching from 4 cylinders to 8 and that that was what his mechanics experienced when they drove the vehicle for the 11 miles. He said if I was experiencing something more more substantial he said that may also have been caused by the water that may have tripped the sensor. So far I've been pleased with how the dealer has handled my concerns.

The really disappointing thing is that about 30 miles after picking up the jeep from the service station, the check engine light was tripped again and the shudder seemed to more noticeable. WTF. The bucket of bolts is going back tomorrow. Will keep you posted if anyone is interested.
