Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

My rough math has it dead nuts even. The sum of the covered items listed for your 3.6 (assumed 4WD) is $1500-1600 ish so it's a wash not counting time value of money. 0% helps offset that you are pre-paying for your service but in my book I have to get a solid discount for prepaying so much. Keep in mind also that this is actually a 100k plan more than it is a 10yr plan as it only covers listed items which stop at 100k and most people drive more than 10k yr. So at 15k/yr the plan stops covering in about 7 yrs, fwiw. You still get your $1500 worth but just know that you start paying for maintenance before 10yrs comes in all likelihood.

Punchline is you are not getting ripped off but it is no "deal" per se.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Well...considering that the manufacturer's interval for oil changes is 10K miles on MY14+ and the plan is for 5K miles...it's interesting. Also, the spark plug change for current model years is something like at 100K, not 30K. That plan description seems to be have written for older model years when the intervals were different.

Personally, I'd rather pay a la carté for this stuff and also have the option of using an independent mechanic for oil changes, tire rotations, etc, where I pay about $80 (full synthetic) So if I figure two changes a year average ($160 a year) plus the spark plug changes about every two years for my Hemi (mine is older and the interval is 32K miles) at $300, my total over five years is about $1400. So in your case, the $1500 "could" be a good deal if you are piling on the miles, but not likely if you are a lower mileage driver. And if you want to be locked to the dealer service network for the service.

What about the probable increased cost of services over the next seven years?

He has the V6 so the older schedule still applies for him at 100k for plugs. Oil change interval is not really 10k. That's a not to exceed and its officially when the indicator says to. The 5k is overkill but it is perfect for tire rotation (7k is popular but 5k will Max the tire life every time). This plan certainly only pays for dino oil.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

My assessment is this:

It looks like the only cost items they provide are oil changes, fluid top-offs and a set of spark plugs way down the road. The rest of the stuff is all labor and no cost for materials.

The rest is all "inspections". None of the parts related to those inspections are included.

What that means is, you could take the car in for about the same or less to have it done on your dime, especially considering a proactive dealer will often send you discounts and coupons to use on service so you won't go somewhere else.

Your out of pocket costs for those oil changes and fluid top-offs would have to be more than $150 a pop to break even, much less save anything.

For that kind of money, I would want at least one set of replacement brake pads included since I'm paying so far upfront for something I have no guarantee I'll have the vehicle long enough to use.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Also states that this includes 20 oil/filter changes but limited to $30 for each oil/filter and lube. If a dealer charges more, its on me!
Sounding more and more like I should cancel.....I have 60 days

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Plus if the vehicle is totaled for any reason, God forbid, you are just out on both plans with no refunds and no transferability.....

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

I think setting that money aside in a savings plan would be better. Like it was said earlier, if the vehicle is sold or totalled you are not out that non refundable non transferable policy.

A do it yourself oil change when you figure in parts and your labor (say $50/hr) isn't even cheap today. I know it can be done in 20 minutes, but most people I know take close to an hour when you figure in disposal and just basic cleanup afterwards. I started doing oil changes for my neighbors before I could drive. That's when acceptable disposal was to dump the oil behind the garage and cover it with dirt. That doesn't work anymore. Speaking of not working anymore, neither do I, and that includes my own oil changes.

But we would need to know the other services that would be included to come close to assessing value.

---
I can change oil, me and Sam (Sam Adams ;0) in 5 minutes, that is about the actual time to put in OR2/tire jack mode, slap a jack under just in case, loosen the drain plug
and let drain, (sam comes in at this part for a break/cold one). Pop plug in and remove filter and reinstall new filter. Add the 7 qts and lower, maybe 1/2 hr total time including dumping waste oil into a jug.

Funny thing is my local Jeep store where I bought it, lets me dump my waste oil in their tanks, they have 6 1000 gallon tanks for waste oil they burn in the winter. So I guess I am doubly green using synthetic and having it burned for heat

Total cost is probably 50$ with Filter and mobil 1 from wally.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Thanks for everyone's responses. Based on the following reasons, I have chosen to Cancel my "10 year" maintenance plan.
Limited to $30 per oil change (need to pay extra for synthetic) and 20 changes
I like doing my own oil/filter changes
Pre-paying for long term services that are not refundable or transferable
No real savings
Obligated to bring vehicle to dealer which will try and up-sell

Thanks to everyone, love this place and my Jeep!
