10 Year Maintenance Plan?

I just picked up my new JGC Overland (Gas V6) and love it (except problem with registering UConnect)! The dealer matched (actually exceeded) the lifetime Mopar max-care protection plan at $2,300 with $100 deductible. He also offered me a 10 year maintenance plan (all scheduled maintenance for 10 years at $1,500. He lumped this all into a 0%, 5 year financing plan, so I got my jeep with both plans for $2000 out-of-pocket. What do people think of the Maintenance plan? (he said I could cancel until my first visit).
Thanks

What all does the maintenance plan cover? Things like brakes, batteries, belts, transmission filter/fluid change (ultra expensive on the 8spd) or is it just oil changes? Is it a mopar plan or a dealership plan? Im not familiar

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Is it a third party warranty (service contract) instead of the Mopar MaxCare plan?

I think he bought this in addition to MaxCare. It sounds like scheduled maintenance as opposed to repairs.

I also agree. Oil changes, tire rotations, fluid flush......?? What about parts/labor?

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

I bought a "maintenance plan" with my Sonata and it was a terrible experience. It was a 3rd party service contract and there was no record of it so on my first visit for the 30k mile service package which was very expensive they said there was no record of it. Had to vall multiple people to get it figured out and in the end they said to just cancel it, and when I did it was prorated so I ended up losing money.

If it just for oil changes and standard air filters and stuff I would advise against it or get it noted down in the system while you are there to confirm you have it when you walk out the door. If it covers all items like brakes and other wear items Id say do it, cause mine didnt. Just my opinion

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

well sad part is, with maxcare plan, only thing one has to do is change the oil/filters, air filter, T-case fluid, diff fluid and coolant and spark plugs to maintain the warranty.

Other wear items would be the serpentine belt and brake pads and rotors.

Everything else would be covered.

Definately not worth 1500$ IMHO, the above items are basic things anyone can do themselves.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Thank you for the responses, I have asked the dealership for more details on what is covered and what is not. This is through Mopar with all maintenance work handled by any authorized Jeep dealership. I was lead to believe it covers all required maintenance costs (with no out of pocket expenses for me), but I do agree that if this is not the case, I will cancel. I will keep you posted!

While most people could do the maintenance themselves, not everybody wants to. If you keep the car for 8 years or so, and figure in what an oil change might be costing by then, it just might be worth it for some.

A do it yourself oil change when you figure in parts and your labor (say $50/hr) isn't even cheap today. I know it can be done in 20 minutes, but most people I know take close to an hour when you figure in disposal and just basic cleanup afterwards. I started doing oil changes for my neighbors before I could drive. That's when acceptable disposal was to dump the oil behind the garage and cover it with dirt. That doesn't work anymore. Speaking of not working anymore, neither do I, and that includes my own oil changes.

But we would need to know the other services that would be included to come close to assessing value.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

I just bought 18 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra L and 2 Mopar oil filters for my diesel and it came out to $225 online. That's $112/oil change and I have a couple extra quarts for top ups for the first 2 oil changes.
Personally, I'd rather change my own oil. I know what goes into it, there's no waiting or appointments, however, I'm pretty certain I will spend over $1500 on fluids/filters/brakes over the next 8-10 years.

Re: 10 Year Maintenance Plan?

Ok here is what the maintenance plan covers.
Question to the Group: Is it worth $1500, 0% financing for 5 years?
I can cancel......thanks for any insight!
