8000 is ridiculous. 8000 kilometers maybe definitely not miles, that is beyond the longest service interval of either the "A" or "B" service schedule. But hey its your engine, feel free to destroy it.
You're basically saying Chrysler recommends that we destroy our engines by following their guidelines. That makes sense...

My dealership (which gets more money with more frequent oil changes) recommends 8k rotation, as does the engineers who built the darn thing. My money is on them...

You are absolutely throwing money (and good oil) down the drain by changing every 3k miles.

Which page of the owners manual says 8k for the first oil change?

I didn't say 3k either. With synthetic you can go much longer but personal preference is 4k for me. But I am willing to bet you the cost of an oil change that the computer will never let you get to you 8000 recommendation before it judges oil as time to change.

I don't know the page, but it's near the back where it has scheduled maintenance. The first scheduled anything is at 8,000... oil and filter change and tires rotated.

I have now gone 6,000 miles in my new WK2... haven't changed the oil yet... and no computer warning or anything like that. I do plan to change the oil this Thursday, however, b/c I have a free oil change coupon from my dealer that expires Dec 31.

GM and Ford now recommend oil changes every 7,500 miles for their cars.

When I owned BMW's, the recommended oil changes were 14k miles from the factory (full synethic). Most people over there did them at 7K just to be safe, which I agree with. I don't think 8k on a full synethic is unreasonable, but like someone else said, there are as many opinions on this as there are people in the world.

Well all I'm saying is in my manual (both electronic and the extra hard copy I requested) I can't find a single reference to 8000. The "light" driving mx schedule calls for 7000 max as far as I can tell. And if you drive in cold or hot weather, idle, drive on stop and go traffic etc etc you should not be using that schedule. But like I said it's your engine. You can go 80,000 between oil changes if that's what your comfortable with. Just hope you grabbed the lifetime maxcare.

As stated by Chrysler customer service factory fill is NOT synthetic.

Right, regular dino. I drained mine at 2800 miles and filled it with fresh dino.

I'll go Syn next time around and probably do soemthing like 7K rotations on those.

Well... I mean, it recommends oil changes at 8,000 miles, 16,000 miles, 24,000 miles, 32,000 miles... and so on. No, it doesn't specifically say "change the oil every 8,000 miles"... but, if you can do simple arithmetic, you should be able to deduce that from their scheduled servicings.

Like you said, though, it's your car... if you want new oil every 2,000 miles, that's your prerogative. It might be a waste of money, but it's yours.

Re: 11 WK First Oil Change Question

Changing oil every 3000 miles also believes in Global Warming! 5-7,000 miles for me depending on Driving and conditions and always do Tire rotation at the same time!

Looks like the manufacturer's recommendation of 8,000 mile oil change intervals is on page labeled 536 (538 of the PDF). I've included a link to the PDF if you don't have your manual.

Re: 11 WK First Oil Change Question

whats up with all this talk of metal shavings? If you have metal shavings at mile 1, your engine is already toast, no need to change at 1000. I plan to change at 2500 to conventional, 5000 to synthetic and then once a year or 15000 miles, whichever comes last. I change my current WJ at 7500 and only use conventional, runs like a champ at 100k. People don't give modern cars or oil credit. Does everyone know what synthetic means? Its made in a factory, doesn't break down.

The first oil change states "8,000 miles or 6 months":

8,000 Miles (13,000 km) or
6 Months Maintenance Service
Schedule

Change the engine oil and engine oil

filter.

Rotate the tires, rotate at the first sign of

irregular wear, even if it occurs before

8,000 miles (13 000 km).
