Agreed you only have to deal with them once and I have had about 7 leases with them and have never had an issue

What do you mean you didn't do much research? Jeez, man. Congrats on not knowing what you're paying for! You could be making an all-interest payment for all you know. I hope you don't get screwed at the end of this. (But you sorta deserve to, darwin's law and all that, because you just let the dealer walk all over you...) Do you know *any* of the numbers?

Anyway,

Just to sum up my findings:

Ally no longer charges a fee for exercising the purchase option.

Current residual is 54% for a 36 month 15k mile lease. The rate I was quoted was 1.66% for interest but I'm not sure that this is as low as it could go.

I don't anticipate the CRD being much different since the V6 is the same rate. At least I hope the CRD isn't much different.

I've had prior bad experiences dealing with them, they refused to make good on a mileage credit component of my lease, they have historically charged high fees, they typically they don't offer the best rates in my area and their customer service is entirely online/phone based. The fact that Jeep is offering a $5000 rebate to use lease providers other then Ally says alot.

I lease a Laredo X in 2007 with Ally it cost close to $600/mo I lease a Laredo X in 2013 with Hann it costs $389/mo (both mid 30K trucks). I recently leased a Ford Edge and their residuals and MF are way better then either Ally or Hann can offer and their leases actually including clear options for early turn in (not buy out, turn in). I've previously leased BMW's who also offer much stronger lease programs then Ally. All much better experiences then my Jeeps... YMMV, just know you have a choice and you should be able to get other options then Ally from a Jeep dealer.

Re: 14' Lease Rates (April)

Well, the monthly cost is something that you should have been aware of. The numbers are not hard to figure out once you've got them. You can't hang that on Ally. As far as choices, we haven't seen any lease incentives (or any real incentives at all) on the 2014s. And I'd *love* to have some choice about who to use, but here in NC, no one uses anyone but Ally. I've tried to find someone else, believe me. If I could take advantage of the IDL Bonus Cash (stands for independent lease), I'd probably be driving a 2013 right now.

Re: 14' Lease Rates (April)

The residual on my '14 Overland is $24,829. And there is a $0 purchase-option fee.

Me thinks I am going to have some serious leverage in 3 years, keep in mind I only drive about 8k miles a year:

Used Jeep Grand Cherokee - in 98012 - on Cars.com

This is a list of 2011 Grand Cherokees for sale nationwide priced highest to lowest (I went with 2011 as that's about 36 months ago). So basically my Overland in 2016.

Me thinks that I'm going to have some serious, serious leverage here. Say I can sell it for $34k?!?! I'd pocket almost $10,000

I'll be WAY WAY ... WAY ahead! Let's hope resales stay up.

Re: 14' Lease Rates (April)

That'd be great, Copefree, but remember that 2011 til now hasn't seen much of a change design-wise. They're all still Wk2s. But when 2016 rolls around, we'll be on the verge of WK3? That will take a bit out of the resale value. So don't count your chickens just yet.

I don't think you really have a grasp of how leasing works. There is no balloon payment, the lease has a residual value that you can utilize to buy the vehicle or turn it in. A balloon finance is not a lease, there are balloon finance programs, most notably Mercedes has such an option.

There is no such thing as a lease with a balloon payment.

I'm not an Ally fan either...

Re: 14' Lease Rates (April)

Hi Torifile,

I am not sure what is wrong with you. Also not sure why I deserved to get walked all over. See, it's simple. I leased my car, I am going to make 39 payments at $479, I put no money down, there are no payments due at the end of the lease, and since work pays for my car there is no chance I will purchase it. What else do I really care about? Since the residual is inconsequential to me it also makes the money factor inconsequential. I'm pretty sure I got a fair deal. I don't think the dealer walked all over me but it is clear that someone has all over you. Relax a little bit - have a beer.

If work is paying for it, why do you care about the deal at all? Just curious.

Also, if you don't know your residual and money factor how do you have any idea whether it was a good deal or not? What was the sale price?

This is the point. If you are offering the terms of your lease as some information that may benefit someone else...that information is of no value without the purchase price, MSRP, residual or money factor. The residual is vital on a lease whether you intend to purchase the car or not as the difference between it and the purchase price are the core of the lease.

Those of us who are knowledgable about leasing know the mortal sin when leasing is negotiating based on the payments. If you as a consumer go into the dealer and lease a car without knowing the money factor or residual...you got hosed somewhere. I know for me I just don't want to see that happen to people, and its so easy for it to with a lease.
