Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

Apples and oranges. You use more ethanol because the heat of combustion is lower than gasoline so you need more to get the same chamber pressures, not because the octane is higher.

Octane is just burn rate and resistance to autocombustion & has nothing to do with power.

That said, I expect that using 87 in a hemi particularly around town is resulting in a retarded spark/over rich mixture to avoid detonation (most likely at high temp, high load, low speed (like starting out of a stoplight) and that alone will kill mpg.

ps my last tank was 20.5 mpg (actual not EVIC) and I never left metro Orlando.

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

At 300 miles and I'm getting about 18 hwy. I keep my foot in it though around town, about 15 in town. Driving from Atlanta to Louisville Ky over Easter will let you know.
It could not be any worse than my 2008 HEMI.

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

2014 V6 4x4 Overland:

tank 1: 379 mi, 18.7 mpg (100 miles freeway)
tank 2: 403 mi, 21.1 mpg (all freeway)
tank 3: 371 mi, 22.6 mpg (most on freeway)

total: 1150 miles, 20.7 mpg total

EVIC shows 23 mpg... so: in reality, not quite as good as the computer thinks it is, but I'll take 20.7 coming from 12mpg on my 2002 V8 Tahoe!

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

Has anyone taken a significant road trip with their V8 and recorded their milage? Seems like only the V6's are taking long trips.

Don't know if you consider it a long trip, but this week I'll be going from Dover, De to Island Park, to Manorville and Hampton Bays. I'm returning Monday night, so will try to post mileage Tuesday.

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

Unfortunately they have not posted the data file yet - that gives the basis of the ratings. One there now only has the GC SRT.

Sounds like one of my trips but going the other way. I am usually traveling from Long Island up to Hampstead, NH. This weekend I'll be headed up to Boston in a loaner Camry, no need to post those numbers here. Looking foward to hearing what you get. Hope you enjoy or are enjoying your trip!

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

The MPG rating are out for the 2014 JGC V6 & V8 on fueleconomy.gov. How is everyone doing in comparison?
V6 = 17/19/24
V8 = 14/16/20

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

The full spreadsheet just appeared and answers a few questions
JGC 3.6 2wd city 17.4185 hwy 24.7476: 17/25
JGC 3.6 4wd city 16.8899 hwy 23.9152: 17/24
JGC 5.7 2wd city 14.1410 hwy 22.0349: 14/22
JGC 5.7 4wd city 13.6004 hwy 20.1445: 14/20

That rounding does change some things particularly the real difference between 2wd and 4wd.

Also note the 2013 V6 5spd was 23.4287 hwy & the 8 speed added just 1.3189 MPG but was enough to bump from 23 to 25. Numbers don't lie but...

Re: '14 - Roll call for MPG figures

I have a 2014 overland V6 right now I'm getting 13 mpg . I have a very short commute to work . My 2011 GC limited V6 was getting 11.5 mpg on the same run.
