Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

You are brave to hack up a Summit.
Tires look great.

I agree! I didn't want a $150 part make my decision for me on an Overland over a Summit. Once I was able to verify the mounts for the hooks were still there, I knew what I was going to do. Not the prettiest but it is functional. Plus, nobody but us fellow Jeepers will ever know/notice.

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

God damnit. I was set on ordering an Overland. I told myself I would just upgrade the stereo myself. Then you had to go and do this. Damnit.

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

Did you ever get around to tidying-up those fascia edges around the cuts that you made for the tow hook installation? If yes, any chance of a few pics of the finished product?

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

What exact parts are needed for the tow hook mods on the Summit? Is it as simple as just buying the tow hooks themselves?

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

I've had the same tires on my Overland for over a year and they really are very quiet. Love these tires!

Yes, there is no difference on the frame behind the fascia on the MY14 Summit--the mounting points are there. But you do need to carefully cut out the fascia on the Summit to allow the tow hooks to be installed.

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

Does anyone have any more pics they can post on how they cut-out the fascia to allow the tow hooks to be mounted on the WK2 Summit?

I was still hoping for an aftermarket kinda fascia that would allow tow hooks and also save the original one... thinking I'm giving up since nothing showed up until now!

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

With the tow hooks nestled up in the fascia like that (compared to the overland), is there an issue with hooking the strap to it? Enough clearance?

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

You might need to use a shackle between the hook and your tow rope/strap - it really depends how much clearance you want to cut-out of the OEM grill.

Re: 14' Summit new tires and tow hooks

Been almost one year - can we get an update on the tires? Noise, wear, MPG?
