Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

From the photo, looks like quite a bit of damage. But it will take some exploring to get the full damage report.

Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

I'm sorry to read about the accident however glad you're all ok. Hopefully good health will continue. I've no doubt you'll be pleased to have the mess of dealing with the vehicle situation behind you. Please keep us posted on how things progress.

Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

As a prior insurance broker, I would NOT accept anything less than a newer vehicle at minimum (i.e. 1 MY newer and 10-40k less). The goal is to step into a new 15' or 16' depending on how the adjuster writes it up and what you owe.

GL...you can make this out to your benefit since it was no fault of your own and nobody was injured. Glad the beast handled a German GT car...sorry for your loss!

Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

2 days later & still feeling ok, thank goodness. The Jeep made it to the body shop this morning so we're just waiting to hear back from the adjuster.

As much as I love this one, if they do end up repairing it we'll likely trade it in on a 2016 just so I can rest easy. Summits are hard to come by here in any color other than black & white and we have a week-long camping trip coming up. Otherwise I'd order one.

Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

Glad you guys walked away from that. There's no way the insurance will fix that and if they offered I would flat out refuse. That driver is fortunate he didn't hit a smaller car looking at the damage or there might have been a fatality.

I had time to say he was going to hit us and I hit the gas to minimize the impact as much as possible. The total repair bill was just over 14,000 , this was for a complete new bumper , left quarter panel , 1 rim , half an exhaust , left side lights , 2 wiring harnesses and to fix the dent in the lift gate. There was no frame damage to my jeep. I am surprised they fixed it at a cost of 14k , but I was not impressed only having the jeep for under 4 weeks then it was in a body shop for a month.

The gf is still recovering with physio from the accident after all this time , so be very very careful and don't clear the claim saying you are fine. She did not feel the effects of the accident until 3 days later.I would recommend getting a lawyer so that you get everything you are entitled to for repairs and if you need it any medical costs.
So they did not total it out and offer any form of new/er vehicle replacement? Were you compensated for the diminished value of the vehicle? That is very surprising...not meaning to play back-seat driver, but I would have NOT taken that vehicle back. Did you have any options?

And great advice on waiting a couple days...Dad was in a bad rear-end hit and he wasn't feeling the pain in his back/neck until the 4th day

Your dealer can get one out of the "system"...I know there are 16' Summits here @ Ventura Crown Dodge in non-white/black...saw two today when I dropped mine off for service. Have your local dealer check the database for trades now...or maybe a 15 High Altitude? You might be able to swing that since the 16's are out and they want to move any 15's left.

I must say I am impressed if the Jeep took the initial hit from that 6-series @ 40mph (it looks like it did)...I know you mentioned he hit other cars, but he got the worse of your impact, just such a BUMMER he didn't hit the hitch! Who knows, that may have changed the impact and caused you to feel more force and have less reflective movement...

Since you had a Summit, seems like a High Altitude or Summit in MY2015 could work out if you play your cards right...GL

A few more pics from the body shop. Still working on the estimate but the adjuster said this was completely repairable.

Is this a shop suggested by your insurance or by you?

Re: '14 Summit vs BMW 7 Series

Unlike what most here have said I feel that based on the pictures it will be repaired.

It still amazes me at the crap people manage to do. It looks like just a straight road. Drive straight, nothing else to it. People can screw anything up...especially when on a phone.
