Re: '14 - UConnect Access Trial Expiration and Renewal Cost

I still can't figure out the value of uconnect or what purpose it really serves for 15.00 a month

LOL... there isn't any that I can see. You can do so much more with a smart phone.

Re: '14 - UConnect Access Trial Expiration and Renewal Cost

To me the fundamental flaw is that people who can afford a monthly fee (or a GC for that matter) tend to have more than one car and want infotainment to follow the person and not be tied to a car.

I have several cars & am converting all to handsfree and bluetooth (4 done so far). For a while I thought Windows tabs were the answer. Now I am starting to think the car should provide a touchscreen (e.g. via miracast) and an audio system (via bluetooth) and that is all. Everything else can be in the smartphone on your belt or in your phone. Linking is done when you start the car.

The only issue is if both you and your passenger(s) have linked phones but that can be handled via selection of input.

This way one person just needs one smart phone with data plan for wherever they are.

One problem is that not all phones support miracast (Android 4.1 and later today) but that is a self-solving issue.

Re: '14 - UConnect Access Trial Expiration and Renewal Cost

I agree with the majority there is no way I'm paying $20 a month when all I ever use is the remote start. Does anyone know if you can code break the existing remote start or do I have to purchase a new one for my jeep.

If you are talking about the fob, it still works. You lose the ability to remote start from your phone or computer.

One works through uConnect which doesn't expire. The other works through 'uConnect Access' which is a subscription.

Re: '14 - UConnect Access Trial Expiration and Renewal Cost

My insurance gives me a discount for having the ability to track my vehicle in the case of theft. I'm not sure if this equates to $20 a month, but it certainly brings that cost down a bit.

Interesting ... how much of a discount are you getting and how did you sold this to insurance company?

The discount is usually five or ten percent of your comprehensive insurance only. Some companies don't consider a system that stops working when the battery is disconnected. The best person to check with is your agent.

Re: '14 - UConnect Access Trial Expiration and Renewal Cost

The only feature I really care about with Uconnect Advantage, is the ability to locate the vehicle if it gets stolen. I never used the other features other than to show off to other people that I could lock the doors and start the car by using my smartphone.

My trial just expired. I figure if the car gets stolen, I can reactivate my subscription then, just so the car can be tracked. Does anyone know if there is any information needed by customer service from inside the car to activate it? If there is, I'll write it down now in case it gets stolen.

I think you need to be in the car to reactivate it through blue tooth
