'16 Interior Design/ function Changes

So i've been checking out the changes the newer model has. For instance, im glad they went to a more interactive shifter with the bump over for selective gear, similar to the early wk2 and wk. Im still wondering why they moved the sport mode onto the console. While I really am turned off by the shifting position of my '14 (its so booring moving the starship enterprise), one thing i do enjoy is that going into sport mode is rather seamless. Why not have the sport mode placed into the manual slot? When I was younger my friends a4's and 3 series had that feature where you could go into the selective gear slot and then also say, hey i want sport and then decide whether to shift or not. Granted jeep tends to make decisions based on the majority and for cost effectiveness but frankly locating the sport feature, which i enjoy on my Hemi, on the center console, seems rather silly. Hell, put eco and sport on parts of the shifter or atleast on the flat console next to the shifter so Its seamless. I guess those who dont buy the srt but love a hemi are the odd people out now.

Can anyone speak to the changes from a daily driver stand point yet? Just curious as Id consider upgrading but frankly I also dont mind waiting till the next update/ see what the new Wagoneer looks like.

Re: '16 Interior Design/ function Changes

For the most part 2016 seems to be a minor refresh. Besides the shifter the interior will mostly look unchanged. Same with the exterior with exception to the 75th anniversary edition. Most of the changes are in things like uconnect and the updated 3.6 engine. Even those things won't stand out as different on an everyday basis. If you are looking for something different I think you're gonna have to wait for a significant refresh or the next generation altogether.
All the changes are listed on a sticky in this forum.

Sport Mode is on the SelecTerrain knob of the MY11-13, not on the shifter. So a return to that method with the "more mechanical feel" shifter somewhat makes sense.

Agree with you on the shifter, I like the new 2016 one better but also not a fan of the movement of sport mode.

Really the biggest change for 2016 was the new V6 engine. It gets the stop/start feature for mileage and also supposed to get some additional low end grunt to it. Mixed mileage increased 2 mpg over the 2015 so if mileage is important to you the 2016 v6 does increase. Hemi did pickup some also, 1 mpg mixed and 2 mpg hwy. I have not heard any reports on how the new v6 drives but it better be good considering they delayed the launch of the 2016 model year to accommodate that engine. also v8 gets electric steering for 2016.

Ah I see, So it kinda became more practical in the 16 update than the initial 11-13 wk2 but not as intuitive as the 14/15. Alot of changes for same feature. Wonder why?

Re: '16 Interior Design/ function Changes

Stu, I was just suggesting that Sport Mode was "off the shifter" for the first three model years where the shifter had that "mechanical feel" to it (and the "manual" shift on the stick) and that perhaps a return to a similar shifter required them to go back to "the button", as it were. I don't know. I'm just speculating. Personally, I don't mind that Sport Mode selection is off the shifter as I rarely use it, but for others, it will certainly be a different thing.

Re: '16 Interior Design/ function Changes

Just wondering if the stop/start feature is selectable, and if it defaults to on at each start up?

You can turn it off. Good question if it defaults to on or last setting though. Hopefully they learned something with the eco button fiasco on the 14s and 15s and it will remember last setting. My fuel door fell off so mine is going back in next week and i am going to test drive one of the v6 while they are working on mine. Id never buy a v6 until im forced to but just curious how smooth the start stop works and the 16 v6 was supposed to add some low end grunt. Will report back

yep that's what you get when the entire assembly and hinge mechanism is made out of plastic now instead of metal. the actual hinge mechanism is what broke, no abuse or misuse just broke. I stuffed it back in and the door release holds it in place. fortunately the painted cover slides off and can be reused but the hinge assembly around the filler neck is all one piece that needs replaced. still two months before my jeeps 3 year birthday so the 3/36 will cover it.

the V6 definitely sounds interesting. I ended up getting bumped up into a '15 laredo while traveling back in Dec and, while its no hemi by far, the v6 in that wasnt as bad as I was expecting!
