18" Overland wheels

I was at the dealer today getting an oil change and I was looking at some of the Jeeps on the lot. They had an Overland with the off road package so it had the 18" wheels. Is it just me or do those 18" wheels make it look cheap, I mean you don't get the all terrain tires anyhow, but in addition you get those cheap looking wheels all for an extra $995. I was just looking at thinking this makes no sense at all. My overland with the 20" wheels looks way better. I was just wondering what others thought about this?

Re: 18" Overland wheels

I'm with you. An Overland with OFAII looks terrible by comparison. The 20's look so good on that trim. It really shouldn't be an option on anything above a Limited IMO.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

The 18" wheels come as part of the ORAII package (which is $295). I don't love the look either, but they give you more sidewall than the 20" wheels which helps for offroading. I think they should be an option for two reasons, the first being that some people prefer them, and the second that they are better for people who are going to do a lot of offroading in their Jeep.

I agree about the 18" option, but in this case you get cheaper wheels and cheaper tires for an additional cost.
Well maybe the tires are not cheaper, but they are not off road tires.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

Agreed the 20" look better but if you want to go off road then the 18" does give you more capability, side wall and reducing pressure, and yes the tyres do need to be upgraded as well. I just put the deposit down for an overland today, and purposely swapped the 20" for the Laredo 18", the dealer was happy enough to swap them.

Looks aren't everything. With many vehicles handling suffers above 18" or so due to the weight of the wheels themselves. I recall Car & Driver or one of the car mags did tests awhile back & larger wheels, while looking "better" to some, adversely affected handling on road, and as we see on Jeep, off road.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

I'm wondering if the OP is talking about the overall design for the 18 inch wheel option.
I may be the odd ball out on this one but I liked the 11-13 18in wheel better than that of the 14. It looked more simple and rugged. IMO

Re: 18" Overland wheels

Each to their own, we are the opposite.
In Aus the Limited comes standard with the 20" wheels, and we don't like the look of them.
I think they look boring and too plain, the misses actually dislikes them completely.
We are swapping them for the 18" as we both think they look much nicer.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

I knew I was ordering the ORII package no matter what wheels it came from. I liked the 18's in the pictures that were available at the time, and have no regrets.

The 20s looked too much like other wheels I've had in the past. Nothing wrong with them, but just like the color I was ready for something that was new ... At least to me.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

I like the 18's that came with my limited. I think they look "fancier" than the 20's that look like every other set of wheels out there.

Re: 18" Overland wheels

My wife and I both thought the 20" rims that standard on the Overland looked like ****(reminded me of the wheels on the Hot Wheels cars I had when I was a kid) That's the main reason I ordered mine with the ORII, just to get the 18's.
