2000 Mile Update

Well, I've put almost 2000 miles on my 5.7L Overland in the last month. Still think it is one of the best looking SUV's on the market today. I traded in a '02 Overland WJ and '06 BMW 330i for this vehicle. I can definitely say the fit and finish (button feel) is not as good as a BMW, but better than my older GC. I do have a couple of gripes though with the vehicle so far.

1) The front driver seat squeaks on turns and keeps getting worse.
2) The radio (FM) reception is awful, I'm curious if I'm the only one with this issue.
3) The factory sent me the wrong remotes intended for a Dodge.
4) The vehicle slows down when cruising, I've been told it is engine braking, but neither of my previous two vehicles had the issue.
5) My biggest concern is the engine shifting. I had the famous shutter noise when I first got it. The dealership replaced the front isolator, but it is still slightly there. I keep getting a vibration above 40mph. I don't know if it is the MDS (Eco switching), tires misaligned/bad, or just the transmission not shifting smoothly.

Only the 5th issue really concerns me - it is quite annoying when you spend 40k on a new vehicle. I hope this lends some insight to all you other WK2 owners and potential purchasers. Happy holidays!

Re: 2000 Mile Update

I've had mine since Sept 22 and just crossed 5,000... and I haven't had any of the problems you laid out except #4. That is completely normal, though, if what you're describing is what i'm thinking -- i.e., when you let your foot off the gas, the car begins slowing even if you're going down a hill. That is engine braking and it's supposed to do that. If you want to coast down a hill, either lightly keep your foot on the gas or throw it into neutral.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

Also, agreed on fit/finish not quite on BMW level... but also doesn't cost the $60k+ it would take to drive away in an X5, either. Still, fit/finish is very good.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

Thanks for the info on the engine braking - I guess it is normal. Has anyone else had issues I described in OP.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

I have Laredo X 4x4 QT I with V6 and 430N

1) - don't have this problem

2) - FM reception seems fine to me but I am in NYC - probably close to most local stations antennas. Plus I mostly listen to Sirius now and I do notice that under bridges it cuts down but it is to be expected AFAIU

4) If you mean that it slows down rather fast when you release gas pedal - mine does it too. It is different from my previous car but it was '98 ZJ

5) I don't have shudder. Did replacing the front isolator reduced the shudder for you? I am not 100% sure from reading your post.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

I felt the WK2 is world class from fit & finish to the powetrain and driving comfort, and I've owned several top ranked vehicles in the world; my WK2 Limited is my favorite vehicle overall compared to those that I have owned. At first my neighbor thought I bought yet another Audi, a Q7, when I brought it home. It drives better than a Q7 from my posterior's perspective.

No issues that you have are found on mine. Sorry you're having problems but it's not indicative of the WK2 quality, and I'm a picky person when it comes to vehicles.

4) This I consider a feature and a helpful one at that. It saves me from constantly braking when not using cruise control which makes for a more relaxing drive for me. It's kind of like having the benefit of a manual transmission; just modulate your speed using the throttle. It is designed to work this way and is a German-engineering-thing to save your brakes at no expense to fuel economy, BTW.

5) You are feeling the MDS kick in. Mine is barely noticeable and I really have to listen for it and concentrate to feel any different vibe. Nobody but me notices it. Yours may need a different isolator or a trans shift-point flash from the dealer as was mentioned. Surely manufacturing has made an engineering change to the trans algorithm or the isolator since some of us have no issue while others do. The MDS is showing me 23+mpg (EVIC) on the highway at 60mph...worth it to me.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

I have about 2000 miles on my V6 Overland now as well. I don't have the shutter that some people talk about. I also don't have the squeak in the front seat, but I do have some other issues. My impression of the cruise control on the new Jeep grand Cherokee is just awful. It is slow to engage and will not maintain the selected speed on secondary roads that have up hill and down hill driving. My old 1996 JGC had a much better cruise control system.

Re: 2000 Mile Update

@ Bmwister. Thanks for the information. I'm impressed you are getting 23+ mpg. I have the 5.7 and looks like you do as well. I'm seeing 18mpg average when I read the fuel economy average. Is there something else I should be looking for or engaging?
