Re: 2002 4.7 HO vs 2015 5.7

Did your brother do anything to that 5.9L V8? To get it to compete with the 4.7 HO or Hemi, I would think he'd have to. I used to own a 5.9L V8 in a Ram truck, and the same weight (or slightly more) truck with the 5.7L Hemi would beat me handily, even after I did some minor upgrades.

As far as weight goes, the 2011+ models gained a bit with their size increase. All numbers below are rough, based on Edmunds and WK2Jeeps.

2011+: 4500 lbs to 5400 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.
The Hemi models will be between 4900 lbs and 5250 lbs, depending on options and 4WD or 2WD.

1999-2004: 3800 lbs to 4400 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.

1993-1998: 3600 lbs to 4300 lbs, depending on engine, 4WD/2WD, and options.

If you compare base model to base model, the 2011+ gained roughly 700 lbs, and top end to top end, roughly 1000 lbs.

The 5.9L had so much torque. I think it was 345lbs-ft. It wasn't surprising the 4.7L was slower. 15hp more but ~30lbs-ft less torque with roughly the same weight when comparing the 4.7L to 5.9L.
The 4x4 in the 5.9L seemed to grab really well. Maybe that was the difference between the ram and the gc. The 5.9L were really fussy on gas too.
We lined up 3 times. Twice on pavement and once on gravel. Lost every time. Haven't heard the end of to this day. The 4.7L isn't slow by any means. Just a hair slower in my small sample size.

With the new 8 speed transmission, I'd like to see a 2014 or 2015 line up with him.

Unfortunately his now ex-wife didn't like it and made him trade it in. It was in great condition.

So for the Sunmit since it has specially exhaust tips do you just order the regular V8 system and have the tips fitted to that or how did you do it?
Any sound clips you could share?

Thats a shame, sorry to hear it. Its hard to find one of those in good shape, most of the ones I see are beat to smithereens.
