2011-13 wk2 3.6L

Im getting the mopar CAI for my 2012 wk2 but Ive read a lot about the engine cover being too big and needing to be trimmed etc. does the cover really serve a purpose? Can it be removed? Sorry if a dumb question, still learning how to work on my Jeep.

Re: 2011-13 wk2 3.6L

Probably not the most popular opinion IMNSHO but the only real benefit the 3.6 gets from a CAI is sound and the stock plastic "hose" is a better insulator than metal.

Being over 3 feet long, that is a lot of surface area, in a warm climate you can probably accomplish more by just severing/plugging the tube to the furnace over the passenger manifold.

Part of the issue is that at idle and part throttle, the air moves so slowly though the tube that it can pick up a lot of heat on the way. After a hot soak 130F is not unusual.

I monitor the IAT (intake air sensor in the hose by the throttle body) and at 70 mph cruise it sits about 10F over ambient (OAT) with the stock "hose" and can see that drop when floored but is only time it gets close. CAI very nearly the same.

Re: 2011-13 wk2 3.6L

Thanks for the info. I'm really not interested in performance per say. Strictly looks and sound. So you do not recommend the Mopar intake strictly because of the metal tubes getting too heated vs the stock plastic tubes?
