2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

So I just upgraded to the new 2016 75th anniversary limited edition.

First, I loved my 2011 x package. I put 83K miles on the car over a 5 year period. It was really hard to see it go. I never had any problems with the car (except for the engine check light at 25K for the cylinder head problem, also did the TIPM recall, visor recall, etc), only service was oil changes (only used synthetic). I went with the x package because I hated all the chrome on the car, in fact I took off the grand cherokee chrome strips off the side to clean it up. My only regret was not getting the hemi and it haunted me for awhile, but I found relief in not putting 89 octane in, not changing the plugs ever 30K, and not getting awful mileage in the city (I live and work in San Francisco). The car treked through the redwood forests of Northern California, tackled the Sierras, and beach dunes in Pismo, just to name a few.

But now onto the 75th limited. Some thoughts:

1. Wow, I don't regret getting the hemi this time. The new PUG with the 8 speed transmission is such a huge improvement over the 5 speed. The difference is even significant in eco non sport mode.
2. I love the air suspension and how it lowers in the front at highway speeds for aero mode.
3. Don't like that there is only 1 USB in the front. I use an IPOD and my phone to charge and it sucks that they don't have the extra USB in the middle box compartment.
4. The alpine system sounds a little better than the 2011 alpine system, however the bluetooth was much better in the 2011. Playing music through bluetooth on the uconnect 8.4 sounds flat. The bluetooth on the 430N was much better.
5. The seats on the 75th are so much better. The x package came with leather, but this leather is so much nicer. My 75th also has the perforated seats and I really like the tangerine stitching.
6. I like the fact that they painted the lower panels black instead of the plastic. The plastic on my 2011 was definitely starting to fade. However my concern is if the paint scratches. Does anyone know the paint code for the lower painted black trim?
7. My 2011 had a moonroof but I love the pano roof the extends to the second row.
8. Love the HID tail and headlights, really modernizes the car.
9. I don't the Goodyear Wrangler AT tires. I had Michelin LT2 on my 2011 and loved those. I feel like the Goodyear's are too aggressive looking.
10. On my 2011 I powerded coated the wheels flat black, so I was over the black wheel look and so far I'm enjoying the bronze wheels. I like the 18's design over the 20's design, but would prefer a 20" wheel. My only hope is that the bronze doesn't become a novelty and is outdated in 2 years.
11. My wife also loves the electronic steering. She said its so much easier driving and turning the car. I also like how we can change the feeling of the steering wheel from normal to sport.
12. I stayed with the white with black interior, just think it looks really sharp, clean and modern. However my 2011 was stone white and the 75th is bright white. Definitely love the bright white over the stone white.
13. I wish they put heated seat buttons on the console like the 2011, its kinda inconvenient to change thru the 8.4 system. However it is nice having heated seats in the back.
14. Don't like the chrome rails guards on the trunk floor, not a fan. However with the rubber floor mat I don't see it.
15. Its also nice having the automatic liftgate.

Upgrades:
I already have the grand cherokee rubber floors mats and trunk mat. I'm also purchased the SRT pedal kit (had this on my 2011 and it looked great). I'm also going to debadge the side of the car, the 1941 and Grand Cherokee and trail rated badge is too busy. I'm going to leave the trail rated badge on.

Price:
75th sticker price: $48,215
Got $4,700 off MSRP and with the $1500 Jeep incentive, ended up getting $6,220 off for a total price of $41,995. Truecar says I got an exceptional price. Average paid was $45,570.

Hope I did ok?

Anyways let me know if anyone has any questions.

2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

Looking good! I really like how the 75th edition already has the 2017 front end. Also in regards to #3 I also leave an iPod plugged into the USB. I plug my phone into the cigarette lighter with the adapter. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1465923002.930650.jpg

Re: 2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

I try not to charge anything using the factory USB ports. I burnt a few fuses already. More importantly, the USB at the front is actually a data USB and I would try and protect it as much as possible. That port is used exclusively when you try to reflash your UConnect to a newer version or if you want to listen to music. I have my music on an SD card.

Hence I suggest you use an adapter, and charge from the cigarette lighter. In my case I actually have a radar detector fed with electrons from that port so my charger is plugged in the center console cigarette lighter. Also, I recommend you get a 2.x Amp adapter. I found one at Home Depot that is either 2.1 or 2.4 Amp, charges an iPAD without problems, and also comes with a light blue LED ring which matches the car's ambient lighting, and has a low profile so it almost looks flush mounted into the cig lighter.

Re: 2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

Nice review! As for the USB, don't forget there is two more just behind the console. A wire should be able to run from one of those up to the front seat. So even though it's not as convenient as the front compartment USB port, the Jeep does technically have three of them
I wonder why you have flat sounding Bluetooth audio. I'm sure you have, but have you gone in and changed your EQ settings from the factory default flat settings? I have the HK audio, but on pretty much every radio I always like treble all the way up. On my 2015 HA with HK my audio settings are as follows: bass 3 notches below middle, mid 1 above, and treble maxed. Surround sound ON. Both my 2014 and now 2015 sound excellent with Bluetooth in those settings.

Can you describe the difference between a "data USB" and a non-data USB?

Re: 2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

The USB ports in the back (2) are non-data. Meaning that they will not read data from a device (iPhone, thumb drive). They are for charging. The USB in the front console, behind the door, is the data one. That will read data- like music, and charge your device. Having had a 2012 Limited and now a 2016 Limited, you lost the USB in the arm rest. I hate that. If you want to play music off your phone or an iPod via USB you have to have the door open in the console. I chose to use one of those cig chargers (pictured in a previous post) that take a USB for the phone charger. Then you can play through Bluetooth and still charge. The other loss is the hard drive, I had the 730N. It also was a bear on the 730N to use Bluetooth for music, it did not work well with iPhone, requiring pressing radio and aux buttons to finally read. I also agree on the heated seat button through the 8.4 interface, but it comes up when you start the car to choose your seat "comfort" setting- cooled or heated. I also miss the ability to see what is on other XM channels while listening to another one. Too many screens and from what I can figure so far, no ability to split them so you can have radio stations and the map on the same screen like the 730N.

Also, you mentioned the floor mats. The holes in the front do not match from the 2011-12 to the '16. You had one hole on the passenger one in the middle and now two holes on the sides in the '16. I did not try the driver's side. So I'll make the call on a new set in the Fall. I hate to waste an otherwise good set. At least the cargo mat and rear mats are good.

Yeah, I noticed the floor mat change. So I ordered a new set from justforjeeps.com.

Also, I forgot to mention. I have a set of OEM 18's from my 2011 that are powdercoated matte black just sitting in storage. If anyone is in the bay area and wants them, I'd be willing to let them go for $75. Also, I will let my old Jeep weather rubber mats front and rear go for $10.

The uconnect 8.4 has the ability to have the nav map and all the other normal screen data displayed at the same time. While on your normal radio screen press the map icon on the top right. I'm actually surprised someone is comparing the old radios to the new 8.4. No comparison IMO.

Re: 2011 3.6 x package to 2016 3.6 75th limited thoughts

One other difference I learned is the motor oil. I have not seen anything really posted on this. But we early WK2 3.6L owners went from 5W30 to 0W20. So from a dino, syn-blend, or synthetic option to now full synthetic. Also the oil must meet FCA newest standard MS-6366 which Mobil 1 does not meet. Mobil says to use Mobil Super Synthetic 0W20, not the kind (Mobil 1) you get at Wal-Mart for $23 a jug. This is a new oil specification for 2016, as the 2015 use 5W20 with Chrysler Material
Standard MS-6395.

Per the 2016 Owner's Manual (note "recommended"):

Engine Oil Viscosity — 3.6L Engine
MOPAR SAE 0W-20 engine oil approved to FCA Material
Standard MS-6366 such as Pennzoil, Shell Helix or
equivalent is recommended for all operating temperatures.
This engine oil improves low temperature starting
and vehicle fuel economy.

Funny because Pennzoil actually does not list the '16 GC in their oil finder on their website. Their top tier full synthetic does not meet 6366, but meets 6365.

Boards like this love to debate oil, let it begin.

Looking good. I went black for my 75th GC, but the white was a close contender... You got a solid deal too. My 75th stickered at $52,305 after destination and I managed to get them down to $43k. From what I saw online, anything roughly 18% off MSRP is a solid deal. So you definitely did well at the table. Congrats!
