Re: 2011 Engine Options

Starting to see some objective acceleration tests as well as Chrysler estimates of 0-60 times for both 3.6 engine [8.5 to 9.0 sec.] and hemi [7.5 to 8.0 sec.] These are extremely disapointing compared to the comparable competition [4Runner [7.4], LR4[6.9], GX460[6.8] and even a new hemi Ram 1500 [7.0] which weighs 900 lb. more than a WK2 and is as aerodynamic as a brick. What gives?

Re: 2011 Engine Options

well...Ive never driven the 05-10 5.7...but from what Ive heard on here there is a hesitation. I didnt notice it at all with the wk2 5.7 I would guess a tuning change....

Maybe...but why then is MPG not any better than the competition? I own a '08 Magnum hemi AWD [340hp and 390 ft/lbs at 4250 lbs.]. A Ford SHO AWD[365hp, 350 ft/lbs., 4363 lbs.] smokes me big time 0-60 and 1/4 mile. I think that many Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge engines are over rated by the manufacturer as to hp and torque. Has anyone ever seen an objective dyno test of the hemi?

Re: 2011 Engine Options

the sho is a V6 TT.....totally different animal from the 5.7 The 5.7 is terrible at gas mileage and doesnt deliver the hp and tq despite its displacement. The gen 2 4.7 massaged can make much more hp than a 5.7 massaged. Ive never really delved into the 5.7 to be honest though. Could be any number of factors......

Not sure why Jeep got away from the 4.7. Great engine; period.

Because the 4.7 doesnt have the term "Hemi" associated with it which was a huge selling point for Jeep when the 5.7 was introduced,

Re: 2011 Engine Options

So, the latest 4.7 has 305HP? I wish I had that version in my WJ.

Re: 2011 Engine Options

Drove both and ordered the V6... Both engines felt fine... the v8 had slightly more pull, but virtually no difference unless you went more then 3/4s throttle.

I figure that over the first 100k or so it will save me $6k+ if gas prices stay current. This includes $1500 for the hemi, and the different grades of fuel required.

To me that is worth the very small price paid in off the line grunt.
