Outspoken and direct when sober, reflective and reserved when posting while lubed. Most of us are the opposite.

You need to come home man. Maybe start a thread with your resume in the Garage or Under the Hood. Let's rally the JG troops on your behalf.

Cheers.

I compare this discussion to when a little metal band that had a cult following called Metallica "SOLD OUT" their loyal fans by putting out an album that appealed to the masses. The look was still them, the sound was definitely still them, but they added something that sold records...They evolved with the times to stay alive. It was probably the biggest marketing move in their history which carried them though 3 decades. Were a few people pissed off? yes.

At the end of the day, it's about keeping the doors open and selling cars. What you are seeing is an AMERICAN auto maker competing in today's market, and people are responding positively to it.

Look at FORD, for instance. They are redesigning their vehicles to compete and they are very successful. Sell out to loyal FORD owners, I don't think so. You can't find a new explorer on the lot these days...

I'm sure Chrysler did a study and the JGC is the platform that would have benefited from an elegant makeover. It's about dollars and cents. I think it was a very smart move. I have always liked the JGC and have test driven many, but like a lot of U.S. auto makers, I was never impressed with the interiors and ergonomics.

All I have to say is that they earned my business, and yes you are seeing it; AUDI and BMW folks are buying a Jeep!

Cheers!

...I do love the LR4, by the way.
I've stayed quite on this thread, but I have to say I couldn't agree more. Having grown up in a loyal Jeep family, I am concerned with the direction they take as I sell them. I'm proud of the refacing that Chrysler has recently made to the GC in order to appeal to a different clientel. We have had tons of people come in with their 2010 Benz's, BMW's, Lexus's, etc. because they've seen that the new GC offers the same amount of luxury and tech (in addition to being near bulletproof compared to current vehicles) while costing them a significantly lower monthly payment.

Chrysler has big plans for this year and is well on the way to meeting goals. It feels good to be competitive in the market. We need it. Lastly, Jeep hasn't forgotten is original mission in a vehicle. If you take a closer look at the model, you'll find tid bits of engineering that subtly screams the mindset of someone that belongs at Jeep drawing board.

Re: 2011 GC Too Typical?

looks are subjective, but imo if you really want to get down to it, the only jeep that comes close to looking anything like a jeep is the wrangler. that being said, i love my WK2 and I still think it's every bit GRAND CHEROKEE as my brother's WJ and dad's ZJ.

The WK2 is all Jeep underneath the pretty exterior. I proved that last week in the North Georgia mountains. It can do everything my 2002 Wrangler could do -- except clear some high rocks, since the Wrangler had a 5" Superlift and 36" tires.
Like I said, I have yet to drive one. That could change my outlook.

Thanks for noticing!
PM me your address. I'll send my resume. before coming back here in Dec 2009, I tried for 5 months to find a job. Best I could land was a $11/hr beginners warehouse job. Can't raise a family on that!

I disagree. As a designer myself, I really appreciate the subtle consistency and clean lines in the design that is lacking in other SUVs. Sure all SUVs all have a similar body type but the lines on the WK2 are the most beautiful in the class. Unlike the cayenne and x5 which look bulbous... or the dodge that is a mix of bulbous and clean, the exterior of the WK2 is refined.

K9j - You nailed it. I don't speak the language of design, so I couldn't have articulated it like you did, but somehow the JGC looks "different" from the other SUV-type vehicles. Guess I'm just a sucker for trapezoidal wheel arches ...

Re: 2011 GC Too Typical?

I took title of my black summit last week, been driving it only a few days but I gotta say that this vehicle looks great, and I've probably had a half dozen folks give random "thumbs up" (ie. Nice ride). A few of my colleagues that are currently driving Infinity and BMW are really eyeing this car as immediate replacement. Not just 'imminent', but...immediate. It's just a car, but it's pretty sweet. It's not totally neutered like a lot of wanna be SUV's out there (ie new ford explorer), has some chrome which gives it a little substance (I know that's subjective), and the exterior is outstanding. The exterior lines are smooth, but it does look 'muscular' whatever the he'll that means. It's really sharp. To each his own, and I don't judge but it's pretty cool (as I've stated ion several thread on this site) that Jeep has earned back the right to be mentioned with Range, Infinity, BMW, etc. The rest is preference, with this caliber of suv, it's all good. This car is really fun to drive.
