I hear what Scott is saying. I too said I didn't like the WK when it came out, but now I do. The one thing I definately don't like is the weird looking headlights.

Taste differs I suppose and in time we'll probably be eating humble pie. But from speaking to people over here, there's a lot of favour for the XJ because its so different looking. I've spoken to many a ricer who say they love the XJ.

To me 'Jeep' is almost a culture and yes it is about standing out, having something that little bit different. True, they won't make anything for just us. They're in it to make money, no arguement. But it seems that it's going the way of most other vehicles ie you could take the badges off and never be able to tell one from the other. Even my boss (a die hard BMW X5 man, has referred to my Jeep as a beast)

But again, just my opinion.

Yeah, but when they did all of their financial breakdowns and analysis and cost-benefits, the Cougar looked like a money maker. That's what companies go on; analysis, numbers, etc.... not what some small collection of enthusiasts think.
And its looks like when they did their financial breakdowns, analysis and cost breakdown they have assumed the JGC will be a money maker. Time will only tell.

You may call us, we, them or whoever a small collection of enthusiasts, but if you went out on the street put the 2010 jeep and 2011 jeep side by side, removed the badges people will instantly guess what one is the Jeep, and then hazard guesses at the 2011 model. Again that is only my opinon and what I have experienced.

To me it looks like a a failed european design. Two years too late.

... and people will buy it.[/QUOTE]
Yes they will, but lets see if its sells to save the group.

I'm with Matt on this debate, I like the new styling and predict it will be a big hit once it debuts to the general public. Can't wait to see one in person, I think it will impress many of the doubters here too.

But that's not the point, whether it looks like a Jeep or not. People don't care if it looks like a Jeep, they care what it looks like; there's a difference.

We (us enthusiasts) may care if it looks like a Jeep... but if you polled every potential WK2 buyer in the country whether they cared if it looked like a Jeep or not, they'd say I could care less, as along as I like it.

As I said above it looks like an attempt to seduce the european market, albeit two years too late.

And most europeans wont buy it because of the lack of build quality that typically signifies an american car.

Re: 2011 GC Too Typical?

I don't really care for the look of the current GC so I am one of the future customers they have acquired by changing the exterior. I hated the headlights on the current GC and I think the profile of the new GC looks really sophisticated. I think if Jeep can manage to keep current Jeep fans still in the ballpark of "It's still better than any of my other options outside of Jeep" while pulling in more people who were not Jeep enthusiast before they will have a huge win. Also, most of the women I know did not like the current GC but love the look of the current one. I would say more women like the GC that came before the current model than the one that is out now. ( I know that's how my wife feels)

Re: 2011 GC Too Typical?

the WK did not sell well at all, of course they are going to go in a radically different direction with the design. i like it, except for the cheap looking exterior chrome.

Re: 2011 GC Too Typical?

every day I love my Jeep more and more...I have gotten 3 compliments in the last week from people that see my Jeep all the time but asked me if I did something different. I had not.

exterior-wise I really like the WK, and I am still on the fence about the WK2. there are some great mechanical improvements and features that are really cool and are pretty significant. the exterior stying is growing on me, but I loved the Wk when I first saw it so IDK if the WK2 will get to the same status in my brain.

IMO the WK2 is a morph of the WJ and the current WK. They rounded out some of the hard edges the WK has, the headlights reverted to more of the WJ look and the stance resembles the WJ more. I did really like the spy-shot that was posted a couple weeks ago so I think I will truly be able to determine if I like it once I see it in person.

the wk2 is leaps and bounds better than the wk. You will all come around and be drooling soon!
