I was just referring to what dealers do sometime....in South Florida, they tend to charge a $600 - $900 "dealer fee"....of course it is bogus, but they push hard to convince you otherwise and if you get it reduced you feel like you "won" a negotiation point. I talked to one dealer who agreed to waive such add on fees. There is a legit $75 admin fee for using the affiliate program but that should be the only add on fee. You order should list everything.

What color did you order? I'm thinking of ordering black 4x4 V8 (hopefully with the new 730N RHR, but the 430N is acceptable).

....and I might add skid plates too...but those will have to be installed by the dealer since if want the skid plate from the factory you have to have the full off road group which changes to the 18" wheels and I want the 20" wheels.

According to the flyer included in the TL membership package, "The Preferred Price is the maximum amount to be charged by a participating U.S. dealer for an eligible vehicle."

They could probably stand to tighten up that wording. Everyone knows that you have to pay for taxes/title/tags, as well as a $75 fee to Chrysler for participating in the program. But it certainly does read as if this precludes the BS "document processing" fees (usually $100) that many dealers charge. I'm going to nail this down when I talk to my guys on Monday. I have already asked them for my itemized invoice in writing and they have agreed.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Well I went in to order my Summit this evening. I called the sales person around 4 p.m. to let him know I was ready to order....I had spoken to him on Monday and said I'd be ready to order on Tuesday, but he said he was off on Tuesday so I'd waited until today (Wednesday). I told him around 4 p.m. that I want to order the Summit 4x4 V8 in Black and that I'd be in sometime after 6 p.m. so that if he could have things ready that would be great. I get there at about 7 p.m. .... I have to wait 20 minutes while he finishes with someone else (understandable).....then I find out he isn't prepared or has done anything regarding my order yet. OK, no big deal. Then he bumbles around for a bit then goes to the manager. Then he comes back and says it will have to wait until TOMORROW when the General Manager is in since the manager on duty can't place the order because he isn't sure that the General Manager will accept the Control Number for a Summit order saying that they may not want to sell a Summit with the affiliate pricing since they don't know how many they will ever get.....but I am ordering one not taking one off the floor or something! I drove 30 minutes each way for nothing...

When the salesperson (who is nice but very unmotivated) calls tomorrow to MAYBE place the order....should I just say no thanks and order from another dealer? I'm new to the area so I am not tied to any dealer like I was where I used to live.

And this dealer is s 5 Star Dealer too.....Jeep (Fiat) is gonna need to work on those dealers too so people don't go somewhere else....ridiculous.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

The answer to this question is self-evident but I'll play along.

1. Get on the internet and start lining up other dealers pronto. There are many more of them that are motivated than not. I drove 4 hours to get to a dealer who had what I wanted and was willing to meet my needs. It was one of the most enjoyable car purchasing experiences I've ever had. And I wasn't even pissed off at my local dealers, they just didn't have the inventory. In your case, NO ONE has your inventory, so why put up with that garbage?

2. Verify up front that they will honor affiliate pricing. It's a simple yes/no question. Even if they do they might still try to add some junk fees, but at least you'll be starting at an advantage.

3. Don't step foot into that other dealer again or even take or return their calls, unless it is to rail on them. The guy you were dealing with may have been nice, but it is clear that he is very junior and his boss is trying to toughen him up at your expense.

My .02. That's what I would do. This process doesn't have to be a PITA. Good luck.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Cperez - Thanks for the reply. I was at that dealership last week to look at a mineral gray overland that just came in and told them about the affiliate pricing (I even had my Control Number with me) and they agreed to accept the affiliate pricing for the one that just came in but I wasn't sure I wanted that one since it was a 4x2 (is it really a Jeep if it is a 4x2??? LOL). We couldn't come to terms on the trade-in value anyway so I said I'm just going to order a Summit instead but needed to decide between black or gray. No problem. Then I go in today and they aren't prepared (I actually feel a bit sorry for the sales guy since he is nerdy and looks like maybe he has a nervous tick health issue or something...he has a bunch of sales awards though and has been selling Jeeps for at least 8 years and he's pretty young. If it wasn't for him I'd just walk out). I'm gonna contact another dealer again since I'm thinking the trade in value will be an issue anyway if I decide to trade in...

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Dan, when you were going to the order the Summit, did they say anything about the Nav? 430 or 730?

Chris, what Nav did you end up with & how do you like it?

Nope....never got that far. I did bring it up though that I wanted the new 730N RHR *if possible* and that I was willing to pay the $305 or whatever if it was available at the time of build....but that the 430N would be OK if still not available then....but I do NOT want the old 730N RBR.

I probably will just tell the guy tomorrow that their opportunity for the sale was yesterday when they were supposed to place the order and that I've gone ahead to a new dealer. They are a 5 Star dealer so I am disappointed.

I really don't understand why the reluctance ON AN ORDER.....I would even be putting down the $1,000 deposit too. Oh well....moving on.

Dan,
I would not waste your time talking about affiliate pricing with the sales rep. These guys want to see the JC for as much as they can to maximize the $$ they make on the sale. Here is what I would suggest (and what I did).

Call the dealership and ask to speak with the New Car Sales Manager. When you get him on the phone, let him know you are looking to order a new WK2 Summit and wanted to ensure that they were able to accept affiliate pricing. Don’t ask them, just confirm with the Sales Manager that they accept it. If they do (and the vast majority of the dealers our there accept it) then ask him if there is a specific sales rep you should work with. In my case both dealerships pointed me to the rep that handled their internet sales.

Now there is no question about affiliate pricing, the Sales Manager has confirmed it and all you have to do is make sure the sales rep knows that you are using affiliate pricing and you have already discussed it with the Sales Manager.

I was told by the Sales Manager at the dealership where I ordered my WK2 that they have no issues doing affiliate pricing on any order and the rep would get a flat $200 commission for the sale. He told me it is the easiest $200 they make because most people coming in with affiliate pricing and wanting to order a Jeep know what they want and there is very little work that the rep has to do.

If the Sales Manager will not accept affiliate pricing, then I would hang up and move on to the next dealer on your list. I had zero issues with this approach (open, transparent, but working with the people who knew the facts) with 2 different dealers here in Denver, both were very professional and had no issues with affiliate pricing.

I hope this helps.

.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Mashie - Definitely good advice. I thought it was all set since they agreed to the affiliate pricing on the Overland they had just got in (but it was a 4x2...and I want a 4x4 but was wiling to do the 4x2 at the right price) and I then told them I was just going to order a Summit instead once I decided on a color. I even called ahead to give them time to prepare....then get a bit of a run around that I have to wait another day (already waited a day while salesman was off). Anyway, I was trying to develop a relationship with this 5 Star Jeep dealership....but alas it wasn't meant to be.....like all relationships it has to be a two way street...!!! On to the next one......

yep good call, just keep in mind, I learned the hard way, that not all jeep dealerships are equal in the allocation they get in the ordering process. For example, my order (that I did not purchase) was with a smaller Jeep dealership and I was informed that due to their size and sales they do not get as many jeeps as quickly as the larger dealership in town. I am not 100% that this is correct but it is what I was told.

If you are ordering a Summit, I would make sure you are ordering it from a larger dealership that has lots of allocation from the factory

I hear you Dan and I admire your empathy for the nerdy sales guy (I wonder if he's nerdy like a wolf?) I've done the same thing in the past and trusted my gut that I could work with someone after a rocky start.

And no, I would not consider a 4x2 no matter where I lived. It would eat at me every time I got behind the wheel. No offense to our half-brothers out there.
