Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Sooooo......I saw a Summit just like I want "in transit" according to the Jeep.com website. So I contacted the dealer via the Jeep.com website. So, the guy calls me within minutes and says it was a sold order that the customer picked up about two days ago... He wanted to know if there was another Overland that I would be interested in. I explained that that one was an Overland Summit and that I was only interested in a Summit. He said he could order one for me at $500 over invoice and I'd get it in 4-6 weeks.....saying they are building them fast now that the hold up in the 4x4 transfer cases is over with. Hmmmm.....seems like more dealer BS to me. Jeep needs to clean up their dealership network....

It may be BS or maybe not. I have been looking or waiting for Milous to weigh in on this issue regarding builds of Summits (with 730).

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Exactly the opposite of what I was told as a second dealer here in LA has now confirmed that the Summit is on restriction. No one had any explanation as to why or for how long....!

Like other areas, several dealers here are reporting Summits in transit. However those cars either did not match my configuration, or the asking price was too high. There also seemed to be quite a bit of uncertainty concerning the status of the RHR radio on these pre-existing orders. For me, the RHR (or lack thereof) is a deal breaker.

Is anyone else hearing that the Summit is on restriction ?

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

I would never presume to speak for Milous but I think I can sympathize with Milous' position. I am responsible for a website for a Public Safety Agency website for our retirees. I have to weigh my responsibility to my employer with that of my readership, so to speak. Sometimes you can not answer as you would like, but have to "walk the line" as a balancing act.

The service Milous provides is indeed wonderful and should be appreciated for what can be done, within reason. Just my 2 cents worth and my apologies to Milous for my comments and I hope I did not offend anyone.

Thanks Milous for all you do!!!!

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

OK ---- so I called jeep to see if there are any details or updates esp since that one dealer that I called said production of the GC is really geared up and that if you order one now it will take 4-6 weeks. Well, my order was from over 4 weeks ago and still in D status. The jeep hotline lady....who doesn't know how the ordering process works (she said that, not my comment)....said that GC order would take 10-14 weeks. That is a big difference.

I've owned a lot of Jeeps (all bought new) and some other new vehicles too. And the lack of clarity and knowledge with regard to Jeep is unacceptable. It isn't the wait per se, it is the not knowing and perceived incompetence.

My sister bought a new Lexus in December....her dealership experience was nothing short of phenomenal...far exceeding anyones possible expectations. The Jeep dealers have been mostly terrible....their Internet marketing is nothing but worthless as they don't know anything and just send you a bunch of canned emails back (one salesperson introducing herself and telling a little bit about herself including her dog....like I care...I just had one question about buying a Jeep on their lot but that of course wasn't even addressed). One dealer I repeatedly emailed about a vehicle that was in transit (I later found out was NOT a sold order since it sat on the lot for 3 weeks) and the emails in response to inquiring about the vehicle were less than worthless. It is as if they don't read them, have no reading comprehension, or they actually have monkeys banging on a keyboard.

If I wasn't a very loyal Jeep owner, I would have walked away a long long time ago...

(I feel better now..... :-))

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Dan JGC,

Man, you need a night out to unwind, relax and just chill. You seem to be wound really tight on this. I think Jeep is a victim of creating something people want....I mean really want for a change. Look at the folks on this site who range from sports car types, to soccer mom situations, to hard core off-roaders wanting some thing nice to drive, to everyone else in between. The product is amazing in it's scope and abilities and is gorgeous to boot. They are just stuck with the dealer network and employees they have always had. Some good, some bad. Some worse than bad!!

I believe they underestimated demand along with having to deal with ex-corporate partners and new ownership. Trust me, I am as anxious as the next addict for my Grand Cherokee. We hear paint color issues, transfer case issues, interior option issues, shudder issues, issues with issues.... ad nauseum.

Wait a minute, what am I saying? Hurry up and build my damn Jeep!

Have a great weekend (Superbowl!) and don't watch the slow-moving status board!

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

fireron - The simple fact is there is a lot of incompetence out there in Jeep land, unfortunately. I have owned a lot of new Jeeps so I do have experience and when I compare my experience with my sister's recent purchase....they are not even on the same planet....Jeep has a lot of work to do.

Rugged Brown Pearl (PTW) is on hold until 02/14/11.
Where did you get your I formation that the rugged brown was on hold until the 14th? I know it has been confirmed about the RHR hold date?
Thanks

Fiat has had a heap of stuff on its Chrysler plate, and for the most part has done minor miracles in turning the company and products around. What they haven't yet done is attend to dealer quality and satisfaction.

Maybe this is an Italian thing and will never get done properly. But Fiat management appears to be stellar, so likely they will get around to the dealer issue once they have turned around the vehicle lineup.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summit Edition

Hi, new to the board. Seems like a really good group of enthusiasts.

I ordered my Summit yesterday. I was not educated on the TL discount, but got mine for $500 below invoice. ($45,119 + ttl $261). They asked for $500 refundable deposit.

After going through all 29 pages of posts, now starting to have some concerns... Not 100% sold on the saddle dash as there could be some reflection problems in the windshield. Also, hoping it is not too over the top with too much saddle. Now thinking i should have gone Rugged Brown over the Brilliant Black!

I did the black, and no rear DVD as I really wanted the pano. we have a six and an eight year old, so did not want the light interior as we do keep our cars 8 to 10 years and they are tough on an interior!

Any thoughts or advice as I still have time to make any changes...

Sounds like you ordered what I ordered....I did it with the 4x4 with V8.

I've seen a Summit in person....it isn't too much saddle. in fact it looks better than the Overland with 2/3's saddle in my opinion (both are good though). The light color on the dash thing is purely nonsensical and was posted by someone who #1 posts against the Summit for some reason and #2 has never seen a Summit in person.

The only Jeep GC color that I don't care for is the 70th but I haven't seen it in person so maybe it is OK.
