Agreed. My apologies. I'm a bit immature, but I am funny.

MSCA is correct on many of these points and has good knowledge as a prior car tech and enthusiast. Many of us have expressly made those same points in this forum.

By definition, we know long-term reliability reports don't exist for WK2, and we know there have been past challenges. Despite this, anyone who test drives a WK2, knows it is a worthy rig with incredible price value relative to vehicles up and down the SUV spectrum.

Certain folks are knowlingly accepting first issue risks given the hugely positive attributes of these vehicles. Others are more risk averse and want reports first. Neither is correct on this one, it's a personal decision.

Carry on.

Well stated.

Now, how about some more of those "BMOC"-style fantasy vignettes??

Well stated, Moosehead. That sums it up nicely.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

Has anyone had any rust issues with their WK2? I know it sounds silly, but when looking at a brand new JGC on the lot last week, I actually noticed a strange rust spot on the chrome running over the door. Just curious. It also seemed like the leather in the Laredo X dirtied very easily.

I agree. All input is welcome and it's all good information from every point of view.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

The following is a quote from the website below ... I wish Jeep would make more noise about this as I, too, have only one concern and it is the reliability based on history ... if the statement below is true, it sure sounds like they've done a lot to improve things in this new version ...

"The company also employs techniques of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), which is folding in "voice of the customer" data along with lessons learned to ensure that every vehicle is of the highest quality. The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the first new vehicle to have more than 100 DFSS projects."

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

Being I can only comment on mine so far but the troubleshooting WK2 section seems to be growing more by the day which is a huge concern as far as im concerned about reliability.

840 miles, QL dead and navigation does not like cold weather. Well atleast I dont have a water leak issue yet. Ill update when the dealer looks at it monday.

What will really piss me off is if they replace the RER navigation with a refurbished one, just give me the REN and be done with it!!!

All seven of those vehicles needing diffs rebuilt is really suspicious.

No one is that unlucky, and given the wide variety of differentials used across those models there is simply no way it's a design flaw.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

The diffs in the WK2 are new to Jeep, not sure if they're similar to MB's, I wouldn't be suprised if they were.

Hopefully Jeep has what has is the past been a real recurring issue.

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

I'm fussy too and had mine properly lapped and repaired under warranty.

Every WJ I've driven has diff whine, as you say, its just how much.
Some people don't notice it, but I'm a fussy bastard.

At least any whine usually surfaces early in the vehicle's life, and is repaired under warranty.

Regardless, I still cannot understand how such things get through pre-production testing. Do the they just think it's "good enough" and sign off? One has to wonder!

Re: 2011 Grand Cherokee - reliability

My SERVICE 4WD light came on today after turning a corner like I normally would. Seemed odd. The traction control 'off' light cam on as well. I parked my vehicle, turned it off, then turned it on again and the light went off...and my 4WD system is fine!

Must have thrown a code or something to trigger the service light. All is fine and dandy now...gotta love the computers on these things...I wonder if the Jeep runs Windows Vista or something
